I have 99 M2 which I bought brand new, I have been thinking for a while about replacing the seat unit for something else, the rc8 seat unit is an inspired thought. when the 1125 first came out I went to look at it at the nec bike show, was not overwhelmed by its bodywork, sitting on it the gear lever was in the wrong place and the bike didn't light me up like my cyclone. passing the ktm stand I saw the rc8 for the first time WOW this was a good looking bike, under belly exhaust like a buell and sitting on it the gear lever was just right and so was everything else, on the way home I just couldn't help but think that the rc8 was the bike buell should have built, if it had I would have traded in the cyclone for one. can't wait to see if you can do this. |

Ive found a fiberglass race tail, I wonder how difficult it would be to mod it to fit the factory tail light from the rc8 as well |

I am with Hybrid on this, it's your machine do with it what you will. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But wait a minute, what this? An 1190 KTM with a mass centralized design, a tube frame, WP suspension components, and a dry sump twin? Hmmm, a very familiar formula. I swear I've seen something like that before. But where oh where was it? I may have just found my next muse. Crap, whats my wife gonna say... Ohhh Honey! Guess what I saw on the Buell site today? Im all for changing it up and doing something custom but i feel like the sharp angles of the tail you picked might contrast too much with the rounder sloping S1 tank and frame. I think the tail is too long as well. keep it short and stubby. |

There are countless topics on here when some arsehole takes a S1 and makes it into a chopper and the Buell community slate said chopper builder for doing so. The S1's are a rare breed. Why on earth would anyone want to basterdise what is probably the most iconic styled seat unit on a bike this side of an XR750 ever to come out of America when the end result is a clusterfuck of ugliness comparable to reviving Marilyn Monroe with a black beard? And one not between her legs but on her chin! Yep it's your Buell. Do what you like with it. Remember this though. Next time yer misses puts her fancy frock on and those high heel fancy dancing shoes, tell her she'd look better in a pair of Red Wing rigger boots and wait for the slap in the face Rocket in England |

then offer to buy his, and every other, S1 and then no one can butcher them up anymore oh no? Wont/Cant? Then dont worry about what people do with their property If I can persuade the OP of this topic not to basterdise another S1 I'd have no need to buy his S1 to prevent him from ruining it. Not a point of won't or can't. The4ork asked of our opinion. I gave it. As for worrying about other peoples property, specifically when it comes to an S1. No problem. It makes mine increasingly special the less of them around. I also recognise many that do these 'conversions' eventually pass their bikes on. They never, or seldom, achieve the value of the bike before they changed it, which says a lot. And the real bike is pretty much lost forever. Ever decreasing in value as they find themselves down the ladder of cheaper ownership until eventually they get broke up and parted out. In my opinion these modifications usually only ever end up in one direction. Sealing the fate of the bike somewhere not too far into the future. For the sake of clarity I have no gripes with any S1 having a great looking modification. Such are recognised instantly and likely have the opposite affect where such a bike is preserved and cherished by whoever may own it in the future, should a nicely modified S1 be seen. An RC8 tail on an S1 is an abortion waiting to happen Rocket in England |

Why do it because you can and because you want to!!!!!! Ignore Rocket the only good things he has to say is about his bike or his taste! Ever heard if you do not have anything good to say dont say it at all! Or does this need to be said? Does this need to be said right now? Does this need to be said by me? I know each person's bike is their own property and their own artistic statement etc. But c'mon, you have to admit Rocket has a good point. That space age looking, "Transformer" like tail with all the angular facets would not segue well with the S1's lines. It would clash with the rest of the bike and just. Won't. Work. The S1 is smoother and more organic with beautiful and classically flowing lines. The S1 is a bit like an American muscle bike version of a high performance 1960's American muscle car (think '63 corvette or '67 fastback mustang). The tail on it is one of its best features, which together with the rest of the bike sets it apart from almost any bike I've seen. Can't you guys see that? I know opinions vary and that style is subjective. But there is a line that can be crossed in terms of taste, and when it's crossed you enter into the..."what we're they thinking?" zone. Who want's to go there? It doesn't make any sense. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. |

Everyone has their opinion does not mean they need to be disrespectful and insulting to others! IMHO Most Stock Buells are a good base to start with but as they sit stock they are asteticly challenged but I would never rip on someone for their taste unless it was a complete abortion like a buell bagger! |

I have to agree. It Is your bike ,do what you please. In my opinion,The s1 tail is one of the sexiest rears on two wheels, on an s1. The ktm rear is also cool and looks great on that ktm.No need to Frankenstein. |

I agree with Rocket as well, I don't think it fits the rest of the bike, but the OP did ask for thoughts, and I also say it is your bike do exactly as you please. |

I feel compelled to jump in to the dangerous turbulent water here.. I agree...sort of...with (gulp) Rocket... good answer....poor delivery... I ride a tube frame Buell (ok, 4 of them)because of what it is, and what it isn't.. the adjustments I make to my bikes are in refinements and issue resolution... the things that Buell could not accomplish with funds he had access to AND with the market return potential. I like the lines, the looks and the whole bike concept. my opinion is that so drastically altering an S1 is a shot and a miss.... from a design element the front half of the bike will not be able to "carry" the back half of the bike, not to say that all mods are bad, you just have to measure the canvas you are starting with and determine what works and what doesn't. recognizing, of course, that I am not standing in his garage nor am I riding his bike. |
