Wow, bad timing. I bought a Laminar Lip for my Cyclone, says it needs to be installed at 70° or up to get the stickon to stick. Then the cold front hit. It's just below freezing now, even in the SF Bay 'East Bay'. Unheated garage. oh well | ||

Jayvee - take out the four allen screws, take the factory flyscreen into the house overnight with the laminar lip. Install in the house, where (hopefully?) the heat is on, after both parts equalize to the temperature. I'm getting ready to put my Cee Bailey windshield on the Uly for winter, and I need to bring it into the house to warm it up. It is a little too "flat" and I always end up bending it to fit the curve of the bike - I prefer it to be warm when I do that, so it bends instead of cracking. | ||

Holy cr** Ken, that's ridiculous! It's a rare day that drops below 50 here even in winter. I probably ride more in winter than most do in summer, life can be good downunder.  Flipside to that, unfortunately, is that we get to pay 3 to 10 times as much for our buells....dammit. Great tip Ratbuell, we often forget that the house is an extension of the workshop. | ||

Here's the company: laminarlip.com/cyclone.php I got the clear one. Holding up to the flyscreen, I can tell I would like for it to have attached from the bottom. If it did, it almost looks factory. But it's not nearly as big-looking in person as it does on their web site. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the ideas guys. | ||

Finally got the screen on, rode to work today, about 40° I think. I hate to say it, but WOW. What a difference. I'd read it could increase buffeting at the helmet level, basically shifting it upward, from the chest to the head. So I paid attention to that, and the buffeting did move up like that. Then I noticed I was doing about 95. Seems like it smooths out the airflow so much, I had to go much faster to maintain my familiar windblast. Wow! Slowing down to 80 eliminated most of the helmet buffeting, slowing down to 70 made it imperceptible compared to without the "Lip". I'm 6'2" and one is supposed to experiment with different positions, but I don't have time for that, I just stuck it on where it looked best. So pretty impressive overall. If it were just tweaked a bit, it could look factory. Don't like the shiny silver 'coins' covering the stick-ons, but otherwise, very pleased. Cost about $90, not a bad deal at all. | ||

Firstbuell: I dumped this a/c set-up and put the factory helmholtz tube on with a K&N cone. Got another 4 mph on my unsanctioned farm road 1/4 mile. The filter pictured is 1/3 of a flathead/hotrod 3-deuce setup. | ||

Well, a color-matched Givi is had to beat. But the L-Lip web site picture of the M2 is pretty bad. Here's snaps of mine, post-installation, but prior to blacking out the dots on the L-Lip.      | ||

What I toyed with doing it just bolting to the bottom of the flyscreen, with some foam/rubber pads in-between. Seems like it could really pass for factory, then. But it loses the little slot under the screen for the air to pass through, supposed to be 'important' but I'm unconvinced how important it is. If I had a spare flyscreen, I would try it, but don't want to drill holes in the only one I got. Will keep an eye out for a yellow spare one, then try it. |
