Any ideas on how to hold up the bike while the rims/tires come off to replace the tires and also need to do some engine work. I was thinking of taking off the exhaust, and using a car transmission jack under it, but a little concerned it might hit the shock. Ideas ? | ||

People here have punched holes in their cases using bottle jacks. Recommend hoisting by the frame with straps if you have some roof joists in your garage. | ||

You really want a set of stands. I use Lockhart for the swing arm, Pit Bull for the steering stem. | ||

I used to hoist mine to the ceiling joists of my old garage with tie-downs and a come-along. Tie downs to tweak pitch and yaw  Now my new garage has been plastered ceiling so I went to harbor freight and got an engine hoist. It was much easier using the ceiling joists though. | ||

I have a air hoist in the ceiling strap to the frame and it the button. One of those cain hoist are cheap and will do the same. | ||

I use a combination of a Warn "Pullzall" electric winch and a rear wheel pit stand. If Rhonda had the trees yours has, I would just own a pair of pit stands, but that Warn winch has proven to be a great tool for a lot of stuff - and on Amazon it was cheaper than the front pit stand that I was going to get in the first place. if you go that way, the other part you need is a pulley and some chain to rig it up. Anchor the winch a short distance from your work, hang the chain and pulley above the work, and pull the trigger on the winch. Roof joists? We don't need no stinking roof joists! Just get a ladder tall enough to straddle the bike and loop tie-down straps over it and under the steering neck. The tightening clamps can raise the bike a few inches. For the rear, turn the passenger foot pegs upside down and put jack stands under them. | ||

2 stepladders, 4 ratchet straps. with these pitbull stands it doesnt lift from the axles right? i wouldnt need to worry about taking my axle caps/covers off and what not from what it looks like? | ||

Pit bull stands lift from the lower triple tree and the swingarm. axles and wheels are free and removable. | ||

I have a stand that looks a bit like the pit bull, it use's the foot pegs to lift the rear, i then put a small car trolly jack & position it under front shock mount to lift front if i need to have front wheel up too. my bike stand for rear looks like what Koz5150 posted pic of | ||

I reinstall the passenger footpegs upside down and place them on jackstands to support the rear end. Then I use tiedown straps to hang the front from an aluminum stepladder. That set up is kind to the motorcycle, is super stable and easy to do. | ||

Koz5150's stand is/was the Shalla Stand, IIRC, out of Sacramento back in the day I have one for my M2 & I love it! actually, I also have a 2nd such stand & would gladly sell it, for the same $100 I paid...... | ||

oh, for you, it's even better than that - I'll be driving thru Sacto from Bay Area on way to Reno tomorrow, T'gvng Day there's irony at work here - since I already owned one of Shalla's cool stands, I purchased yours for Fasted last year, as a Chanukah present - turns out I'd already bought Fasted one as a gift years ago..... my timing thru Sacto [noonish?] will be determined by Fasted's arrival at SFO - so when the 3 of us gather tomorrow, it'll be Buell stand Thanksgivukah all 'round ! |
