I'm eyeing a 97 M2 on Craigslist and I'm curious how they are two-up and how it would do as a weekend trip bike. Also, is the belt cross compatible with any HD bike? Thx |

I toured all of New England with my wife on a '99 M2- the '97 seat is much smaller so you may not want to torture the passenger for more than a few hours. the belt is not the same across all HD bikes. |

My wife is happy with the 98 seat which is the same as yours. Most complaints seem to be about the front of the seat, but I love it because I am rarely on it so I don't want it to get in the way. After the riceys we find the pillion seat to be great. The biggest contributing factor that I have found is the rear shock. When I slapped the Penske on it made a world of difference to comfort because the oem first recall shock was very tired. |

Really too bad the shock Preload is so hard to adjust. My XV920R had a remote adjustor you could change while driveing. Made a perceptible difference even for a 100 pound passenger. Several older HD models share the same belt, as long as the belt has 128 teeth and the right width, it's the same. I forget the width, 1 1/8? |

Red- I'm thinking of selling my M2 - the same '99. pm me if you want all the details and pics. I'm in process of cleaning it up for sale now. (although, everytime I do this, I realize how much I love this bike and I don't put it on the market...but maybe this time will be different...) |

Bluebueller, I'm going to hold off until spring. I sold my Ulysses at the beginning of the month and I thought the M2 would be a good inexpensive bike to hold me over until I find another Uly. |

If you want a 2-up M2...look at 99 and later. The 98-earlier basically had an S1 tail. Even Erik called the S1 seat a "one cheek seat". My first bike was a 99 M2. Loved it, but nothing to compare it to. Now...a bunch of years (and bikes) down the road since then...I have lots of perspective, and every time I ride my recently-completed 01 M2 (see the "it lives!" thread), I'm impressed by the comfort. And I ride it back to back with my Uly, my CR with Select seat and Uly pegs, and yes...my one-cheek S1W. The M2 is a great all-around bike, but like I said...get a late model (that will get you Thunderstorm heads and a Manta tank, too). All that said...you'll never get my Uly from me. Unless the AX is *that* good when it comes out. |
