I think it depends on when the bike/fender was produced. I have a '96 S2 and the front fender is the same shape as the S3 fender. Definitely the '95 bikes and I believe some of the '96 bikes certainly have a differently shaped fender.

The 1997-98 S3, maybe. 1999 and up, no.

The early S2 fenders were thick fibreglass and the front edge curved around to the point that there had to be a small hole in the front surface to allow an allen wrench to get at the lower mounting bolts.
Later S2 fenders are very similar to S3 fenders but, I think, have a more pronounced dip in the transition from the main surface to the vertical struts. On the S3, that surface is more or less a constant curve.

I believe the 95 S2 was a CF fender and and 1996 was FG...

Yes. Mine had one on when I got it and I never knew til Frank Skinner called me on it when awarding "most original" at the first S2 rally.

OK, Court, but back to the OP, what about the front? Late S2 and early S3? (Not that Jersey seems to care anyway.)

An S1 front fender fits on there too and I think looks better:

will they interchange? certainly, as will s1,x1 as the photo above shows. just nothing sexier than an original s2 (early) fender.

JT, I think the final answer is yes a 1997-1998 S3 rear fender will fit your S2 (same swingarm) 1999 and up use the aluminum swingarm and the fender will not retrofit to the steel...

Front fenders all seem to interchange between models with the earlier inverted forks.

My S2 (Rhonda) has a S1 fender on it (the way I got it)

My 1998 S3 (Veronica) had a stock S3 fender on it. I swapped it for a S1 fender, which bolted right on.

I also like the looks of the S1 fender. The later S3 looks like a big ugly hat to me. That said, if anyone wants a later S3 fender, I have an Ice White Pearl one I would let go cheap so it's ugliness will no longer offend my eye in my garage.

I guess the one question that remains, is that, if you are restoring, is an early S3 fender the same as an S2 to return to a stock, as from the factory, look. That, I do not know.
