I have Have 2001 M2 and it is time to wake up this tired old girl, it has 30k on it. I just picked up some SE 536 cams, what is everyone else doing in combo with these cams? |

I've got 25K miles on my 2000 M2, bought with 1,100 miles on it in March, 2001. I almost bought X1 Lightning cams for it once, but I got over that. You'll lose low end power, so if it's a daily rider with in town riding the added lift may disappoint. But if you have room to open the throttle up, others have put new XL or XB heads on there with pretty good results. Preybird1 posted a pic of his dyno numbers in this thread, he did the 1250 kit with modern XL heads (05 or 06 up, same as XB's except no front motor mount holes drilled). He's told me his bike is not as streetable as he'd like. Just scroll for the pic and skip the discussion. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/718743.html?1376316856 There are some "cam threads" and engine mods threads here in the M2 section, but you may find more discussion with a further search in the main Old School section specifically. |

Actually, here's Russ's profile (Preybird1), he's documented his motor work pretty extensively. He seemed pretty sure of what he was doing with it when he had the work done, did lots of research when he was setting the work up, and had his bike to the best tuners. Bike has the same cams as you've got so you could see similar numbers with "only" a 50cc bump. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/boar d-profile.cgi?action=view_profile&profile=preybird 1-users |

XB head or '04 up XL1200 heads netted me the biggest increase. Throttle response will be significantly increased with an HSR42. If the compression ratio is bumped a little with those cams no "low end" will be lost. It will not run as smoothly off idle. Mine is set up just a little hot. It takes race gas or octane booster to get the most out of it. It's a combination of parts that are just a little too much. It works great at the track, but barely passable on the street (quick ignition advance, long duration cam, high cranking pressure, too big carb). |

I ran 536's in my 1200S sporty as a daily ride.. as in only transport, it never gave me any problems and ran 11's. as Rick said, you need to up the compresion ratio, I was running about 11 1/4 - 11 1/2 with a good quench band on thunderstorm pistons in highly modified heads. I then put XB cams in that combo and it didn't go as good. Watch your exhaust valve to piston clearance with them, you may need to sink the pockets or seats. |

Thanks for the info guys. I have done plenty of twin cam motors, but this is my first Buell project. I got the bike for a steal last year and taught my wife how to ride on it. Now that it is mine again it is time to transform it into something really cool. I am lucky enough to work at St. Paul Harley, so I have found a ton of nos Buell stuff in the past year, my boss and I have literally been buying it by the skid!!! The motor is the first part of the upgrade. I got those cams and the matching springs for a great price as well. My plan was to port my thunderstorm heads, do a bigger intake valve, guides, seats, seals, and deck them. Bore the cylinders, new oil pump gear, and wiseco pistons. |
