Buy the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for the YEAR/MODEL of your BUELL ... Then ask questions ??? |

Not likely timing, probably carb. need more history on bike and what stage one means. Where the bike came from, difference in elev. any work done, etc. |

Suggest you find out your current jet sizes, after you check the timing. Assuming you have a CV40 carburetor, its pretty straightforward, but it might help to have a service manual. There was one online from an older carb'ed bike, it should be applicable still to this situation. Find out your Main Jet number and Pilot Jet number. Wouldn't hurt to make sure of the Jet Needle number while you're in there. Then we can review what might be needed. Until then, hard to give specific suggestions, as there are a number of variable. |

Cyclonecharlie,Previous owner installed k&n intake with d&d exhaust, im pretty sure the carb was rejetted at that time 190 fast 40 slow, bought the bike at from a town at 75 ft, i commute from 2500 ft down to 50ft. no major work done that i know of. |

If those are the jets, they are already on the lean side. Maybe look for a tight choke cable or some problem with choke circuit. What is telling you its too rich? Plugs, black smoke, etc. |

The only way to get your fuel/air mixture correct(perfect) is to use a fuel/air gauge !!! This allows you to get your jetting correct while riding your bike !!! |

Follow this link. I wrote it for sporties but the carb is the same in the M2 and the principals don't change. http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php? t=49078 |

You also may need to check your ignition and compression as both of those can affect the ability to burn the charge efficiently.. The carb is the last thing you touch to fine tune it all once everything else is spot on. |

I hope your not parking your bike and leaving the gas turned on....that's a big no,no with a older Buell or HD. Take Stev0 advise, he's giving good direction. |

Hi BB. I'm guessing the M2 doesn't have a vacuum tap like sporties do. (Too long since I've looked at that on an M2, I've only got S3's and X1's as personal bikes). If it does have a vacuum tap then don't worry about it. So that means the float valve in the carb bowl controls the fuel when it's sitting there. If you get a little bit of crap on the needle or seat fuel can overflow into intake and head while it's on the sidestand as it leans to the left. This can give you a fuel smell and overly rich on startup, if it's really bad you'll have a pool of fuel under the bike. Not related to it actually running rich but may be missdiagnosed as a rich condition. |

Stev0, Gotcha, that makes much more sense, as after reading your link i believe i may be runnin lean (back fire during deceleration). Ill know more after a compression test and a carb cleaning, thanks again. |

OK now we are getting back to the LEAVING YOUR GAS ON/OFF shut off. I only do it if it is a problem (bad float/needle seat). I do not do it on my cars, 4 wheeler, Jeep, lawn mower, snowmobiles (when I had them), motorcycles etc. I have had a problem forgetting to turn it on and had it die in congested traffic years ago. I will leave it on and then if it is a problem fix it. I also only use premium fuel with out ethanol, except for a daily driven car. All others get the premium. Hey I'm still mobile. Do you shut off your LP, Nat. Gas, Fuel oil, Water, etc. everytime you walk out of your home? Anyway, have a nice ride either way. Yes I have had gas drip out of my carb numerous times. I'm goin for a boat ride. |
