I need to sell my 97 S1 because I just can't take lack of seat comfort. I'm riding about 2 hours a day on it and it's killing me. I have a chance to get a 97 M2 and was wondering if anyone can comment on the seat comfort of that year model versus the S1. The seat on the 97/98 M2 does not look THAT much bigger than the S1 twin tail (which is equally uncomfortable) and I wonder if I'm headed down the same road. Thanks in advance. Mike |

The 97 M2 might be a bit like the S1. You could fit a later M2 seat to the 97. It will fit without modification and the later seats are quite comfortable. |

By "fit a later M2 seat to the 97" you mean replace both the plastic colored tail-piece as well as the seat? Definitely the later M2 seats are more comfy than S1. |

Well, I rode a 97 M2 and it's WAY more comfortable than my S1. So much so, that I started looking and bought this beautiful M2. I miss my USD forks though, so that will be the first upgrade: Oh and fricken M2's rule!

The new model M2's are even more comfortable. I have a 03 and it has a nice and wide seat. |

Yeah, I know that and also know I have the option of putting a newer tail/seat on this one, but I like the look of the old tail better..more S1 like. And it's plenty comfy as is, so I'm really happy with it. |

Looks great, there's some nice detail work on that bike. Looks like a Penske on there? I love the torque of the M2 cams. The inverted forks are nice for their adjust-ability so will be a good addition. |

Thanks, yeah, has a Penske, but the guy I got if from weighed 220 lbs, so it's a little stiff for me. I have a works performance shock from my S2 I'm going to put on it. Plus I have an XB top end, Andrews N4 cams, Race header, race ignition and 42 Mikuni sitting around, so those will find it's way onto it as well. |

I bought an '02 M2 a year or so ago...and the seat is surely more comfortable than the 97/98 models, but I just don't like the aesthetics of how the rear wheel gets swallowed up by that oh-so-wide tail section. I found a nearly perfect full body set (tank included) from a '98 and bolted that on and I love the new look. I bought it for the old lady anyway, and her butt's smaller than mine (as it should be, right?) so it's quite comfortable for her, and with the narrower seat she feels a little more sure-footed when stopped. Trouble - Your M2 is definitely very nice...but I was thinking the same thing about that Ranchero! Let me know if you're considering a new home for that shock btw...Dave |

Thanks Dave! That's just how I got it, wait till I get done with it :-) Shocks it going to go up for sale in a few week. It is setup for original owner and he weighed 220. I'm 175 so what little riding I have done on it so far feels a little stiff. It's a 16" shock, so I'll sell it with front mount. I have a Works Performance shock I bought in 14.5" setup for me I'm going to put on it. I'll email you before I put it up, if the setup works for you. I bought the Ranchero with great exterior/interior bad motor. I pulled the motor (302) put on GT40 head, a cam, Edlebrock dual plane and a holley. Also put in a good diaphragm clutch (gotta be a 4 speed!) and front discs on it. Weighs 2400 pounds and now that 302 really moves it. |
