Weird. I was out for a ride, the bike seemed fine and all of a sudden the bike just dies at 4K. It's almost like hitting the rev limiter, but not quite. I can hear the engine trying to suck in air, but nothing. Suggestions?

There's a screen over the inlet to the fuel pump that sometimes sends bits of material into the pump, partially clogging it. You have to take the pump out of the tank to properly check it.

Something is reducing your fuel flow. There was a fuel pump thread a few weeks ago that showed how to diagnose and repair the pump.

Pop your fuel cap when it does this, and try again. You don't have to take it off, just loosen it so that air can come in.

It's at the stealership and supposedly they checked the fuel pressure, fuel filter has about 5K miles, exhaust was just regasketed. The bike runs fine right up to 4K and just dies.

turned out the inner perforated tube in the Super Trapp retaining bolt came out and it slid back blocking tailpipe.

Weird. You would think that it would sound very different like that.

When the inner perforated tube in my "Daytona Boss" came loose, it was very noticeable despite the lack of blockage. Kinda raspy. Hard to describe other than "different"

I've had this happen a couple of times with mufflers collapsing.. Including one where I pushed the "S" inlet pipe in too far and it was up against the inlet cone of the internal part of the muffler, that one was done as part of a top end rebuild on a VF1000 and had me stumped for a while.
