I broke down and purchased a D&D. Nice muffler, but LOUD! I have been trying to get a Vance & Hines, but Way to expensive, and always out bid on Ebay. The power gain is nice. I might keep looking for a V&H. Who has one and do you get many complaints from neighbors? |

Just keep the RPM down in the neighborhood. There's enough torque to darn near idle out of the neighborhood. Feather the clutch in and out to keep moving until you're on the main drag. I don't get any complaints, but then, I live on a dead end, and there are several HD riders who run down the street at WOT several times per day. I don't think my neighbors even notice my burbling by. |

Don't waste your time looking for a V&H unless you want a piece of crap that will punch a huge hole in your midrange power and will fall apart after a season or two. Without going to a full race system, your best bet for power, torque, sound, and durability is an internal disc Supertrapp. |

Rat hates V&H but I like mine....Nice linear power from idle to redline as long as you keep the packing in good shape and have the right fuel maps. The mounting brackets tend to be on the weak side but mine have held up real well, so far. That said, if I came across some loose change first I'd do is get a full D&D exhaust. My neighbors are too poor in hearing to mind. |

Bought an 01 Cyclone a few years ago with a D&D pipe. Really loud so I planned to replace the packing. Bummer, welded shut and not able to rebuild. Solution: measured inlet and outlet diameters. Also the outside body diameter and overall length. Ordered a generic glasspack muffler (you know, the ones shaped like a loaf of bologna used used by car guys everywhere). Cut off the rear tip and fabricated a turnout from a short piece of 2 1/2" exhaust pipe and welded it on the back. After roughing up the aluminized coating with #400 grit sandpaper and painting it black I used the 90 degree elbow and hanger from the D&D. More mellow sound than the D&D and feels like the same performance to me. Actually seems like better performance because , being quieter , doesn't feel like it's trying as hard. Cost me $45 |

The paint on the d&d is high temp flat black stove paint. Get yourself a rattle can and go to town They made touchups easy intentionally. |

I agree D&D mufflers on sporty's are great. There has been a welded up D&D megaphone on My 96s1 since before I bought it in 1997. The can gets hi temp stove paint once or twice a year at oil change time. |

I had a VHssr2 pipe in carbon fiber and it self destructed in 500 miles and cost $525.00 It was a nice pipe until it blew all the packing at 350 miles. D&D is far superior and can be removed in pieces instead of as a whole unit. I love my D&D!! The V&H is all soft and squishy now

V&H are junk. I've had them all since '99. Best is the Drummer. Yep, Kevin Drum still makes them for the tubers. I run two full race Buell systems on mine and like them a lot too. I'm going to get another Drummer soon. Great sound and power and Kevin will warranty them as well. Can't beat 'em. BTW, I like the D&D. Best set up is factory race header with Drummer or D&D. |

Speaking of D&D, does the full exhaust; muffler and header, make a noticeable/worthwhile difference in performance as compared with just the exhaust? |

Well i can tell you i noticed a difference right away. Low end torque is much better, and it runs up the tach with no hesitation. |

I'm selling a D&D muffler with less than 1000 miles on it. I bought a supertrapp. $350 shipped. |
