Yesterday I was riding for ~half an hour on the freeway, but when I got on the off-ramp I noticed my exhaust was significantly louder. Took it home and found that in my Wileyco muffler all of the insulating "stuffing" had been blown out and was completely empty except for the metal sleeve clunking around in there.

- so. Is this pipe still worth anything now or should I just chuck it for something different? As problematic as the Wileyco exhaust has been I do like the appearance of it. Anything else out there like that? (also do not have the updated Y-shape front hanger bracket)

I think they had a lifetime warranty at least to the original purchaser. I have one on my S1 that I bought new, and would look into repacking it. I really like the looks of mine as well.

They can be re-packed? That's good to know. Is that something you send the pipe off for or something where you can buy the supplies for and do yourself?

We used to be the UK distributor for Wileyco exhausts, so I know that their warranty had the caveat that the muffler had to be repacked with their own insulation at least every 5000 miles (if memory serves correctly) in order to keep the warranty valid.

Like most of these type of mufflers, the packing degrades over time and eventually will just be blown out of the end pipe. You need to repack regularly not just to reduce noise but to stop the muffler vibrating itslef to pieces (the insualtion is important in keeping everything together inside).

The good news is that you can easily repack these mufflers, and I woudl recommend using a woven type material (acousta-fil it is called over here) rather than the loose strand glassfibre type.

You can see this here http://www.thermalvelocity.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID= 425

And there are plenty of videos on youtube to show how to do it (Some better than others as usual with Youtube)

I have a V&H carbon fiber can on mine. It has gotten QUITE loud over the years. I took it off and tried to get the end cap off to repack it. The first screw.....NO GO!! I would have rounded out the first Allen screw I touched.......
So I figured, before I ended up fricking up the whole can, I just put it back on, and will live with it......LOUD!!!
