I have seen some pictures while browsing google image search for ideas and I have seen some X1's that appear to have a smaller subframe? Were some bikes offered with that option? something like this: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQwigzmD3A pb421ye6QTCgof33evVEx77rGMeopsX_t0QBndlwt I have seen a few bikes like this. |

That's a custom tail section. I believe a couple of German aftermarket Buell parts suppliers offered them. It shows up on SPEED OF COLOR's website, even though I thought RRC originally created it. Hope this helps, 1313 |

Interesting. Looks like a solo tail option a la S1. Pretty cool. There has been other threads on this subject... http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/6 42385.html?1312672960 |

I wish they were still producing this cf tail section; not that I could afford it then or now, but it looks pretty sweet. and this is an RRC tail. |

I saw this tail a few years ago I think and would have loved to have bought one but I just couldn't let go of the funds then. that would look great on any version of a build on an X1!....Im afraid to ask what the price would be to make one....impressive that you have the tools and capability to reproduce this!! |

the speed of color german seat and tail are the best looking, BUT alot of $$$$....have a look at purpony's bike for another idea, he used the stock seat and steel tubing for a much slimmer better look. that carbon superbike-looking one is large and bulbous looking totally out of place unless yours is a racing bike.... |

IIRC that CF section that I wanted for my CF bike was in the neighborhood of 2 grand for just the tail section. At this point I'd rather spend the 2K on another bike. |

Second to what kyrocket said, 2k gets you another whole bike under goo circumstances, and besides even if it were relatively cheaper to reproduce in say fiberglass, would you want to make it look like a bulging 90s gsxr? What purpony did or some variant of is going to be the relatively easiest on the wallet but the most work, the speed of color one as posted by the originator if this thread is $money, as well as $$-looking!!! |

I could produce a tail like that really? good luck. That particular RRC tail (now long discontinued becuase it cost too much to make so was never profitable) was a self supporting preg carbon item that had alloy inserts moulded into the mounting points for extra strength. It also had an alloy tray in the tail to hold the electrics. In short, unless you have experience of pre preg carbon and have access to alrge industrial autoclave you won't be able to make one the same, sorry. |

I love the way PurPony's tail section looks. I'm just not that good at fabrication, lol. I try, but I'm not that good. |

Trojan. I've used to hand lay custom jetski hulls. So no I wouldn't use pre Preg. I wouldn't build it in that shape, as that is obviously a outdated 1990's bulge tail. But the point is I can make a carbon/glass tail that is self containing as a subframe. |

But the point is I can make a carbon/glass tail that is self containing as a subframe. That was my point, the RRC seat unit was not just a seat but a self supporting subframe as well. Wet lay/hand lay carbon simply wouldn't be structually strong enough and would just be a 'bolt on' carbon race style seat unit, which is a different thing altogether. There are plenty of aftermarket race seats that could be adapted to fit the X1 subframe (Suzuki GSXR100, Ducati 916 etc) and there are lots of pics on the web of these done in the past. |

I don't read badly. I'm just trying to show that you are not actually saying you can make one the same as the original RRC unit. You ...'I could produce a tail like that' Then you say that it wouldn't be self supporting (or is that what you mean by self containing, which actually means something different?), wouldn't be pre-preg (and therefore not strong enough to be self supporting like the RRC seat) and wouldn't be that shape. In other words you won't be making a tail like it. If it is just a case of putting a carnbon fibre seat on the stock subframe then that is easy. making a self supporting carbon seat is something else entirely. |

Again. You didn't read. I said it would support itself as a subframe. And if I'm going to spend the time to make molds, why would I make it as ugly as that? or coarse it wont look like that Bee's bubble ass. |

And if I'm going to spend the time to make molds, why would I make it as ugly as that? or coarse it wont look like that Bee's bubble ass. Which is another reason why it would not be the same (which is what you said you could do) You have judged the seat by one grainy picture on here and immediately said you could make it, without knowing the construction method, strength, supporting nature of the seat, electrical subframe contained within, built in rear lights etc, I actually examined one fitted to an X1, so can tell you that it was an absolute work of art If you want to see some decent pictures of this seat unit look here: http://www.r-r-customizing.de/gallery.html#buell By the way, 'self containing' and 'self supporting' do not mean the same thing, so maybe my reading is fine but your writing is wrong? |

Those that can, do....Those that can't, criticise. Exactly. I have been in the aftermarket parts business (Buell. H-D and Sports bikes) for nearly 15 years and have had lots of carbon stuff made for our company, in addition to working closely with composite manufacturers on quite a few projects. It just annoys me when somebody can glibly say 'I can do that' without knowing the full details of the product in question', then moves the goal posts when challenged. Rant over |
