My S1W exhaust was pretty heavily repaired before I bought the bike. After a really hard ride, it broke at a "reinforcing bracket" that the PO had welded between the two pipes. After a thorough inspection I decided it was time to replace as the patches were not all well done and the header was ceramic coated and would need to be redone. With that background out of the way, I ordered and received a new header from American Sportbike. I have the y mount on the way. I have a good set of install instructions. What I would like to ask is this. Would it be worthwhile to have the new header coated, possibly inside and out to prevent heat damage to the stainless header, and if so what coating do you think is best? Should I polish the header bright or just leave the brushed look? Does polishing reduce stress risers in the metal or is it purely cosmetic in this application? I'm trying to get my bike back up and running before the warm weather gets here to stay as I like riding my Sportster, but love hammering on my Buell. |

I say "Jet Hot" as a generic term for ceramic coating. Although, some will say that all ceramic coatings are not created equal. I used a local shop for mine and it has held up as expected, no discoloration or chipping. |

I'm going to drop by Monday and see what they think of my header and what it should cost to coat. I shudder to add up what my total exhaust is costing me! |

Your bike looks awesome. Mine looks like a pile of greasy grime in the shape of a motorcycle. Where did you get the lift bar thingy for your buell and did you have to alter the buell to use it? That is perfect for what I need. I currently pull the tail section and tank and hang it from my engine hoist with a nice heavy nylon strap |

I've used "jethot" jet coating on three exhausts, haven't tried anything else since I am so happy with the quality I get from jethot. it is an expense up front and a time delay when your ready to bolt it on and go....but the patience and expense up front is well worth it! |

Thanks, that gives me an idea of what it should cost. What did it look like going to them for the coating? |

BTW I found Harley grommets for the y hanger 65884-96Y is available from World of Motorsports at this time. and I found the y hanger from a harley dealer for 53 bucks instead of the 140 American Sportbike was asking |

Well i'm pretty sure the updated Y-hanger doesn't accept the old grommet. If you got a hanger from an HD dealer for 53 bucks and you got that grommet to fit into it, i'd bet they sold you the old style hanger. |

Well that is possible, it wouldn't be my first mistake in life, I guess I'll let you know when I get the parts. |

Well the bracket arrived and is the correct y bracket. Now if the grommets are right, I'll be in business! They should arrive in a day or two. Dropped header at Nitroplate today $135.00 for the polished finish that looks very close to Chromeplating |

Doesn't the updates Y-bracket already come with rubber grommets in it? Mine did. |

As they are "unavailable" I figured that since I found them, I'd stockpile a few. |

New hanger and new header are in place. Header was Nitroplated and came out nice. The plan is to have the rest of the exhaust Nitroplated after it is fabbed up and finalized. Cleaned up a lot of little detail stuff and rewired the tailight to LED's with integrated turn signals, cut and reshaped the rear tail panel since the turn signals are gone, ran the catch can for the oil puking, changed plugs and wires and. . . the damn fuel petcock is shot and leaking so bad I wouldn't even think to crank her up. . . Oh well I rode the Sportster 600 miles saturday and sunday, so I guess I can wait a few days lol |

Still have to build a new muffler or at least a better elbow, but I have the bike running and rode it a few miles to the gas station and added fresh gas and the cacophony of sound was invigorating. . . . or maybe it was the instant acceleration that the Sportster I've been riding just doesn't have
will try and figure out video in the meantime |

anyone know the part number for the updated Y-hangar? my S1w has the new hangar but my X1 does not, its a problem waiting for an inopportune time and place to happen.... thought I would scour the HD shops and see if anyone has one left over and try and save a few bucks like Jeff did... |

I called and ordered one, they could still get them....and...they even had access to Buell S3t fairing Bags 37.00 for each side. and they had stock foot pegs...for the S3T I like the rubber pegs...I prefer the LSL pegs for my S1 and x1...anyway, they had the stock rubber pegs as well. |

I'm about to need to replace my tires and was thinking of having my rims cut to bare metal and polished or powder coated a different color. Also have my carbon fiber tire hugger sitting on the parts cart while I consider clear coating it to match the front fender. Your bikes are a big help in visualizing potential changes. I'm thinking of leaving my fly screen off too, though it just needs a simple repaint. |
