You'd be silly not to get the S1W. It's the Buell 99% of (Old School) BWB wants.

I have owned many a sportbike in my day, and my Buell is the one bike i refuse to part with.

The seat is a couch compared to my Ducati 1198s, so it's all relevant.

Hey everyone I got the S1W home. Man what a mean looking machine. The carb isn't fueling to well though so I'm going to clean and put a kit in it. I paid 3,800 for it. Does that seem like a fair price? Looking forward to rippin" up some asphalt.

Hey there's one where I live in Amarillo with the same color combo as yours! saw it today in fact, as you said..looks killer! thanks for the welcome. Now I may have to change my handle from S3..Put a kit in the CV and installed intake seals tday trying to fix the problem of no idle and backfire. It's still not right. There is a threaded boss under what I think is the slow air jet on the intake side of the carb. and someone put a bolt there. Using B12 while running it revealed a vac leak there.. I'll stay at it till it's right,...Ride On

Hey Red, I am curious about what you did for the rear brake on your XB wheel conversion? stealth Ducati set up, stock S1 caliper or something completely different?

Looking good!

Thanks!

'Stang,

Is that an XB front fender? If yes, how easy is it to fit? I have an S1 and am trying to find body parts to paint them black. Thnx.

Yes, but it's also XB forks, trees, wheels and front brake.

S3windbreaker - get a Mikuni and get it dyno tuned. I can just about guarantee you will never go back to a stock CV.

Man I'd like to at this point. I have had the intake off three times. Put a kit in the CV and it still won't run under 2000 rpm. Spraying B12 at the intake revealed a leak as it would pick up and run and the warmer the engine gets it gets a little better. I cleaned the head really good, super smooth. It backfires and just falls on its face with out the choke open and using throttle.
I need help I haven't even rode this S1 5 miles yet. Local independent Harley shop has "problem solver"larger intake seals. Going to try them.. any other suggestions?

If it is indeed the intake seals, are you bolting them down correctly? As much of a PITA as it is, bolting them them equally (yes, it's a lot of running around the bike) will seat the seal down right where it needs to be, squared with the head.

Now, if not the seals, then I would suspect the carb, especially if it sat with gas. The ethanol in the gas now-a-days will wreak havoc on the passage ways in a carb. I just went through the same very problem with my newly acquired S1. Best bet in that situation is soaking the carb in solution. Let it sit for a few days. Compressed air to blow it out.

No matter what you think the problem or problems may be, always remember to make only one change or repair at a time.

Don't try to make multiple repairs, you will never find the true culprit and will most likely cause more problems...

Good luck.

Yes, but it's also XB forks, trees, wheels and front brake.

Hmmm...So does anyone know if an XB front fender will mount on a stock S1 forks?

No it will not, they use completely different mount styles.

OK...used some James intake seals,it helped but still pops, backfires and won't run well under 2,000 rmp. Gotta be the carb. Tryin to get it right. A mikuni would be nice.
Unfortunately it looks like I will have to sell it now. More attorney fees and financial and mental woes thanks to the big D. Anyone wanting a 98' S1W with low miles? Needs some attention(carb. department)but really cool machine, white on white.

Oh I bet I will, I'm really trying, Im just really strapped for cash. Looking for a good CV carb now or I have an S&S intake to run a Super E. I took it out for a run. Still crud on the lower rpm scale but ran great at 3500-4000rpm cruising.More work to be done.. Thanks Kalali

Hey guys wanted to update you on the S1W. Finally got a CV carb that works right and jetted it 195/45, now it runs good. Man what a relief! I was trippin' a little as to if there was more wrong than just the carb and intake seals. Made a lunch break sprint and a after work run. The S1 is alive and rippin up asphalt. I really pushed it through the few twisties we have here, threaded traffic and realized that what was said about the S1W making you want to be a hooligan is true! I was aggressive and finding myself reaching 100 several times. Good stuff and I'm really happy to be back riding a Buell, thanks for the encouragement everyone..Ride On

Thanks guys, another run this morning early. I think I am officially a"hooligan" now. I'm just throttle twistin',gear jammin' madman out there now. No tickets please. We have several highway interchanges with fast sweeping left and rights up and downhill perfect for the S1. No traffic early so I hit em' hard. Need to dial in the suspension still as I think it could still improve a little. It's solid alright, seems a little less stable than the 98 S3 was in the front but I can lay it over further without scraping the pegs. It's medicine in the form of a thunderstormed 1203 cc stress, pressure, divorce, almost losing it relief machine that has an endless perscription. Thanks Eric Buell and Badweb.
If you want that cv Ratbuell it's yours man.
