What is used to seal this to the fuel tank ?

Its a O-ring that goes down over the fuel filter, there is a groove that it fits into on the fuel valve body.

If it has sat without fuel say off the bike for a long period of time that o ring will most likely leak so make sure you replace it!

If you picked up a new petcock from the dealer, I believe they came with the wrong size o-ring for a while, double check the new one against the one that came off.
