I was going to choose an emoticon for this thread but I couldn't choose between the happy or sad face. Some of you may know I have been keeping this carb alive by sending it in to Edelbrock and having it rebuilt. Well, they have given up on it and wont support bike carbs anymore, so no parts. So, whats my best option? Mikuni? or the original carb? Funds are tight but I need something that I can tune that wont fall apart like this one. |

Plain ol' 49-state CV40. Common, cheap, easy to tune and fix, great response, rock-solid platform. |

Ditto on the factory Keihin CV carb, though I have to wonder: what has been wearing out on the Quicksilver? I have two California-spec KTMs that came with the Quicksilver and they were equally loathed on those bikes (replaced both with 49-state Dellortos). Imagine my shock when I learned that the Honda XR650 guys LOVE the Quicksilver. I've never understood why the difference, though somebody told me there was a newer, pumper version of the carb that was easy to tune and had solid performance. I don't know if that's true...never bothered to research it. |

Agree on the cv, although I run a Mikuni. Just can't leave good enough alone... Mikuni is easy to jet and adjust. CV's are plentiful and cheap with economical upgrades available. |

OK, sold on the Keihin carb. What part number should I look for, and can I use the same hardware to mount it? I am finding 27035-92A on Ebay My part number is 27486-92A for the Buell Keihin Is there is difference?, Different choke cable? Sorry for all the prevaricating, just want to minimize the pain of switching... |

As to the question about wear on the Quicksilver. When I got the carb it was leaking fuel, a friend said I was leaving a vapor trail. Got a rebuilt one. next model. A few years later the top of the needle broke off. A few years later it started sticking. back to Edelbrock Now it only runs if the choke is pulled out. No more sending it back for a rebuild, I think these carbs get shaked to death, not tough enough for the motor. Looking forward to not fixing the carb every two years. |

Sounds like maybe it sat for awhile and your jets are stopped up. Maybe just needs some TLC |

Possibly a different length on the choke cable and different jet size(s). Both are easy fixes. I may have one for a Buell S1W in my spare parts. I could sell it you for a good price. PM me if you want me to check. |

Yup, shaken to death, you are lucky you did not get the broken slide stage yet. Seen a couple do that, mine being one of them. Corners of the slide break off from vibes and go through motor. Not good. And for the easiest to tune and the carb with most response get a Mik! |

Working my way up to the Mikuni Jim! Glad it didn't catch fire or feed parts into my engine. An interesting thing in my research, Keihin has a Calif spec carb. I guess it wasn't clean enough to pass the test for California smog with this Buell. |

Triman023 - a 42mm mikuni wakes up a bike that has been using a 40mm CV. The 2mm size increase and a much more evolved design. You will be so happy. |

OK Got the carb off and apart. Found that the fuel cell (a sponge) at the bottom of the float chamber is missing and the retaining plate was just floating around in there! Was able to sneak the retaining plate out and will try to run it without the sponge and plate. What happened was that Edelbrock rebuilt it and forgot the part. The plate was hanging up the float. The lack of service and quality is why they discontinued these carbs. Pondering a Mikuni. Anyone know if the stock aircleaner can be fitted in its rotated orientation with the Mikuni? I want my S2 to look stock, sometimes I use the side covers. |

KC is selling me his CV. Looks like an easy install. Saying THAT will make it a nightmare... Too cold in the garage to work on the bike, will re-install the Quicksilver and see if I fixed the problem. The permanent solution is the CV carb. |

John, if you can keep that Quick Silver going then you will have no issues with the CV... Did you figure out your VOES situation? |

Kc: I see the VOES, its right where its supposed to be and plugs into the back of the Quicksilver. The only hangup I have is whether my original choke cable will connect. Might have to purchase a replacement. Its gratifying to see all the parts and support available for the CV. |

Thanks KC Got my carb back on the bike, will test Saturday. I expect that it will work but I plan to retire it as an artifact of Buell history. It will ultimately sell for a great sum due to the fact that all the others have been trashed. |

It will work nice as paper weight and makes for a great conversation piece. "Back in the day...Edelbrock made..." (Message edited by kc_zombie on January 18, 2013) |

KC. With some fiddling I got it to not flood, but the trust is gone. I may put it on EBay as a parts carb. Still a still a few out there willing to buy parts. I am done. |
