Will a standard round 2-1/2 in/out muffler work on my 2001 X1 if adapted to my bike. I have seen several round mufflers for cars that are good looking and not to expensive. Hoping to get a good sound for under $200. |

Yes you can, my bike came with a homemade exhaust welded to the factory 2.5" elbow. The previous owner cut it off and took a chrome exhaust tip that was 18" long and welded baffles into it. I've also seen a buell that a guy welded a glass pack in place of the stock muffler. You might want to do a little research and see if you can find something that flows similar to the factory mufflers as if you used something real open you probaby won't have enough back pressure. A high performancd muffler like you would use on a truck with a V8 will perform differently on a much smaller motor like ours. The exhaust I had on mine sounded great but it performed better when I put a Vance and Hines SS2R on to replace it. Keep your eyes on eBay for used exhausts, I bought a used but like new condition SS2R for $125 shipped on eBay a few months ago (Message edited by Rsm688 on January 01, 2013) |
