I"m going to just throw this out there because you guys have such great experience and knowledge. I just bought a Nos shock off of ebay for my M2 and it's a little longer than the one already on there. According to my paperwork mine was retrofit at the dealer 08/26/99. The old one has the resevoir a #Ko430.9, the new #Ko431.9. The shock body measures the same @9", the res. the same @5 1/2". The only measured differences that I see are from the shock body back to the ctr of the mounting eye, old is 4 3/4, new is 2 7/8. Could this difference be caused by the shock losing all of it's oil? I'm sure that it lost it all a couple months back. Thanks again for any input. | ||

There were 2 different lengths of shocks on the tubers, depending on what year/style they were...either will fit as long as you have the correct mount. One was around 14.5 inches long, the other 16.5 | ||

Yea Mike, I was just down in the garage trying to figure this deal out and noticed the mount supplied with the new shock is curved like a banana. The one mounted is more straight, I said in my original post the new shock is longer, that was incorrect, it's shorter. So the new mount with the curve should make up the difference. Very cool, now I can quit worrying. I bought this shock off of ebay for $121.00 including shipping, I thought this was a good deal. The seller is a "HARLEY MAN" and didn't want it "stinkin" up his garage. So thanks for your input. | ||

Remember to unweight the swing-arm when you swap out the shock and front mount. Easy way to do this if you have jack stands/safety stands for your car is to flip over your passenger pegs then rock the bike up onto the stands, right side then left side, use care or a buddy, or both. A scissor jack or wedge a 2x4 between the swing-arm and subframe can do the same thing for you. | ||

Ok Littlebuggles, thanks for the advice I wasn't real sure how to do it and I get a little nervous when using jacks and such on the bike. Hey, could I just leave it on the rear stand and then use a bottle jack on the underside of the swingarm, maybe with a 2x4 to prevent putting a divit in the swingarm? | ||

No, don't do that. If anything use a board and jack under the motor. The under the foot peg method with jack stands works well. To prevent slipping use duct tape around the foot peg and jack stand. Looks lame but does work. |
