My M2 has about 25000 miles on it and after some engine mods it doesn't want to hold oil very well. It looks like all of the wellnuts are snockered, so it's leaking at all the mounting points. I guess I should just pull the tank, but I'm hesitant because of the oil lines routing. Any Hot Tips? By the way I just joined this site and I'm impressed with all of the help and knowledge. I picked up new wellnuts and some RTV for around the hose inlets. Thanks

I believe that the tank is molded and cannot leak from the well-nut mounting points. In other words the well-nut is placed into a recess in the tank but that recess is solid at the bottom (no leak point). Maybe oil collects in the worn out well-nuts and appears to be leaking from them. Check for split oil lines at the attachment points.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Jim2, That makes perfect sense to me, I guess I assumed that the recess was open at the bottom because of all the oil in there. But recently when the shop changed out my OEM carb for the Super E the breather oil lines came loose and the rear of my bike was covered in oil, plus I believe someone at the shop overfilled my tank so that was more oil everywhere. So maybe if I swap out the wellnuts it will be good. You guys are great, you have a wealth of info, thank you so much!!

Jim, you are correct. I just used a Q-tip to soak up the oil where the wellnut goes and it is recessed as you said. Fantastic! I was stressed because I thought the rest of the wellnut rubber had fallen into the tank, thus into the system. So all I have to do is remove tank, check all lines for splits, clean up all of the residual oil, and re-install with new w-nuts. Then I should be good on my leakage!! Thanks for the info!

Zed, I just did a rebuild on my M2 and the well nuts swell up and the rubber deteriorates. More than likely the oil you are seeing is from leaking lines and or spilled oil from filling it up. It is easy to replace the lines, the lines feed up through the rear of the engine and swingarm mount. Do 1 line at a time from the oil pump and it wont be to bad.

Thanks for the tip goody, I've been dreading working on the lines, but I know I probably should. That's a good idea one at a time, so I'll just tackle it. What started this whole thing is a top end rebuild with a 1250 kit and an S&S super E. After a few miles it blew so much oil I was worried about riding it. Now I've clamped the breather set up, replaced the soaked and deteriorated wellnuts, and taken two turkey basters of oil out of the oil tank. So, if I replace the lines one at a time, and then check the oil level that should solve the problem
