I see a few different ones on e-bay right now a 1998 S-3 a 98 M-2 a 2000 X-1 and a 2000 M-2 and was wondering what one would be the closest to a 98 S-1. Thanks in advance for any replies, Chuck.

1998 S3 had the ignition switch moved from the engine to the instrument cluster so that's out.

X-1 is Fuel injected so that's out

I'll bet the ignition module plugs on the M-2 will be wrong as well.

Just wait. Sooner or later, some booger pickin' moron will part out a White Lightning for a chopper he'll never finish.

Thanks Greg, Yea i didn't want to take a chance unless someone said it might work if I just did this or that. If anyone needs one of those they are only $30.00 to $50.00 I think thats a great price for a new harness with all the goodies on it. St. Paul is the one listing them, I wonder if it is just the ignition that is the only difference on the S-3??? I could deal with changing just that???

Hey Chuck, didn't even realize it was was you. Why do you need a harness?

Yes, Cafe Desmo happened at the end of October again. No American Superbike class this year.

I detailed and hauled the S2 and two Cagiva Elefants down there. They stuck all three bikes in the Cafe Racer class. I have no clue how a big, Ducati-powered dirt bike is a cafe racer but, whatever. I knew I wasn't going to win anything...just exhibiting. They imported fewer than 200 of those 900 Elefants into the country so I thought it would attract some attention. It turned out that the '87 Elefant got the most attention. You just never know.

The S2 went largely unnoticed until I rolled it out from under the awning at the end of the day. That pearl lights up and people start noticing. I think people have already started to forget (or never realized) how pretty the S2 was.

Ran into Leftcostal. We chatted for awhile. He didn't even know it was going on until he heard and saw all the bikes...then just knew to wander over. It was even bigger this year. Great turnout of a lot of different bikes in the parking area.

I wish they HAD done the American class again. I have the Buell bicycle I was going to exhibit. I'm SURE that would have surprised people.

The s3 harness will work. It's what I used for my 98 s1w save/restore. I purchased a nos on eBay for around a $100. Some wires will be long and you end with some extra connections. In general it is the most viable substitute. Worked well for me.

Hey Greg, I'm doing a frame up on the S1W and saw brand new ones were cheap from St. Paul Harley, The guy I purchased it from lived right on the beach and it has a little electric issue. Nothing bad but I really would like to start with a fresh harness. He didn't ride it in awhile and it had a rough idle, picked it up cheap and just had to clean out the carb and I'll be damn the thing is strong and runs great. Just little cosmetic things from the salt air. Only 9,600 miles on her. I ended up buying the one for the M2, Hope I can get it to work. I've rewired a 72 Norton from scratch so I'm not afraid to do some mods just wanted to get one as close to an S1 as possible. Thanks for the info guys, Ride safe. Chuck.

I have a wiring harness from a '98 S1W.
You can have it. Free... Just pay for shipping.
I also have one from a '99 S3 I'll throw in, just to get it out of my garage...
