So my X1 has been in hibernation for a couples weeks now for winter so now is the time i get to start workin on her. Among a bunch of other things i wanna do in the up and coming months, the gauge setup was one area i wanted to change. I really wanted them to be lower and lay flatter so i made a custom gauge plate out of 10 gauge stainless. I like how now the tank is one of the tallest part of the bike instead of the the gauges. I still have to clean up around the edges a little bit but all in all I think it came out ok, i had to use a plasma cutter for all of it because the bridgeport i used wanted no part of it haha. anyway here are the pics, what do you guys think?

Sweet! I plan on eliminating my flyscreen as well this winter. How did you mount the dash? |

the plate with the indicator lights (Blinkers, neutral, oil, headlight) mounts to the stock location of the original dash. I mounted the other gauge plate by drilling and tapping two 1/4-20 holes on the top triple tree right between the handle bar clamp. i love how clean and uncluttered everything is now. |

nice job, i bet you put allot of work into it. I like how low you got Dash/headlight. Hers a pic of the one i made. Its 1/4 aluminum plate. milled the bar clamp down to the angle i wanted the dash to be, then drill n tap to attach.

That looks great psykick! how did you cut you dash out? looks too perfect to be done by hand lol. Your setup was my original idea. i bought another handlebar clamp and everything. but when i started mocking everything up, i wasnt happy with the gap between the bottom of the gauges and the top of the headlight on my bike. |

I did do it by hand, aluminum is pretty easy to work with and it helps to have the metal shop at work at my disposal. Ya got a Nice lookin bike mike, that low front really makes a difference. Heres a front shot Rsm688

so here is a front view of my setup. not sure if you can tell that mine is a bit lower, but its very similiar. i guess i got part of my other winter project in the pic as well. a hydraulic bicycle chopper with springer front end and office chair piston to make it lay frame lol.

Good idea. I did something similar with CF and some lightweight gauges. I left a couple idiot lights for the oil pressure and neutral indicators.

I figured that bike would spark some interest. Basically i found the low rider style bike on craigslist for $20, rode it around college for a couple years and then i figures that i wanted to make something cool and different. I went to school for mechanical engineering so i have to change everything lol. So i figured i wanted to make it lay frame. So i took an office chair, disassembled it and used the piston from the chair. I then quickly fabbed up the hinging rear end to see if it would even work and it did! now this winter i m going to clean up the rear end, run a chain, and paint it. its been pretty fun so far and it surprises everyone i show haha. Here are 2 pics, one of it in the UP position and the other in the Parked position. The number 3 pool ball in the center is how you activate the piston.

What did you guys do for your headlight bracket? I'd like to get rid of my flyscreen but I didn't really want to cut up the X1 bracket in case I ever want to switch back. |
