So an easy question for the experts: which engine is compatible with my X1? |

I believe any HD EVO Sportster motor will bolt up with some modifications. |

I do believe that the some or all of the 4 rear bolts are larger on the Buell compared to the XL's. |

IMHO, any PRE-isolator mounted EVO "SPORTSTER" engines will mount up to the the BUELLTUBE FRAME ... |

Thanks for the replies. When the time comes the buell will wake up from his long hibernation with hunger of road and miles. |

I may be wrong, but i don't think there are any mounting holes in the front heads on sportster motors for the front motor mount. You would need to put thunderstorm heads on the sportster motor. I am sure someone will correct this if I am mistaken. |

All Sportsters since 1986 have the bosses cast into the front head for a motor mount. I can't speak to the difference in hole/bolt sizes, stock on the Sportster front head is 3/8x16. I doubt the rear changed any at all. |

Man, this many responses and I still don't think your question has been answered properly: what do you mean by "compatible"? Lots of engines will bolt into your chassis but, only very specific ones are a drop-in replacement, that will work with your factory fuel injection, etc. There are things to consider like the heads, cams and the presence of proper sensors and ignition triggers. Do you need a replacement engine or are you just asking which bikes you can buy chrome engine covers or gaskets for and have them fit your stock engine? |

the heads i think they are fine, pistons and jugs possibly shot, crankshaft shot, cases shot, primary should be fine and gear box too. so what i really need is the bottom end with the crank shaft as i have spare set of jugs and pistons that just need to he honed. |
