looking to access the wisdom of the collective: I have a 2000 M2. 2 years ago I had a regulator go out. replaced with one from cycle electric. yesterday this regulator died (have done the stator check it is OK: conductivity, open to ground and VAC output OK). any thoughts on what may be causing the reg/rectifier burning out repeatedly? thanks |

What battery are you using??? How is the reg/rec grounded? I've seen a large amount of reg/rec problems due to low quality batteries and bad grounding. |

thanks Stev0 the battery is Harley Davidson dated Dec 2007 the VR is Cycle electric. this one is grounded through metal/metal from VR body to the holding bracket using the two bolts. i did not use the "extra" black wire that attaches to the OEM VR. ordered a used OEM VR from ebay. this time will use the wire as well. any thoughts? |

If you have the updated front muffler mount that required the Voltage Regulator relocation bracket. The new bracket must have some paint scraped off during installation to allow for a good ground. You might check that if you have this new bracket. The installation instructions are located in the knowledge vault under service upgrades/recalls. This document shows you where to scrape the paint off of the bracket. |

to update: replaced the regulator and the charging is fine. installed a kuryakin voltmeter to keep an eye on the voltage. we'll see. BTW, I dont seem to be able to stick the meter to my cyclone dash. anyone else has this issue? tried all kinds of adhesives. its like the dash is made of teflon |

Most plastic cleaner/protectants (like Armorall) contain Silicon. Glue doesn't stick to silicon. That's my guess. |

Dirty, loose, improper or lack of ground is usually more of a problem than electrical equipment failure. Also remember that most equipment needs more than 1 ground for it all to work properly. ALL grounding points need occasional cleaning. When in doubt clean the grounds. |
