I went to open the saddlebag and I heard a cling/cling inside the bag and the latch did not open. I did a little research and drilled a hole on the latch to get it to open. So the bag is off the bike. Know I'm trying to find a latch assembly!!!! which is no longer available at the dealer. Anybody has a used one out there or can point me in the right direction. Much appreciated! Chris |

Where are you ??? I'm in Australia and I have a few sets of bags and set of upgrade latches still in the packet. I've just got to be careful not to offload anything I may need later as my S3 is a keeper but I may be able to spare one latch.. What type are the bags ?? the origionals or later model ones ?? |

Crzyarg, do a search here in the Old School section for S3 saddlebag latch. There have been some good threads about ways to re-think and/or replace the latches: some have used a HD piece, some have invented other systems, etc. Welcome, and if the search function does not turn up anything, there is also a "search badweb on google" button at the top of the page, that seems to work pretty well. There is information and wisdom on here that dates back many many years. |

I just searched "saddlebag latch" in old school, and got a ton of links, some about S2 latches (some good info in those links as well). Give it a try, see if there's anything. |

StevO, I'm in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. I appreciate it. Let me look some over here and if I get stuck, I'll send you a message. The bags are original Buell Hardcases, Large Lids. |

Are they really obsolete, or does Vintage Parts. I was able to order a set last year through my local dealer. Couldn't match the keys, and they didn't come with keys, so I had a key made to fit the bags and then re-keyed my ignition to match. It was the long way around to get to what I wanted and I had to supply my vin and key number to the dealer just to get bare latches. Can anyone do a search? |

Kmbuell, I called the local HD dealer and they told me they where discontinued, and that they are no longer available. The only option would be if somebody has some leftover sitting on a shelf. Could you give me you dealers information and I'll call them and see what they say? Thank you. |

What all is in the kits? I just got a 98 Defender and it has a bad latch on the right bag...handle works fine, stick a screwdriver in the internals and pop the rods and they release fine (lucky the latch broke with the bag OPEN), just the handle isn't connected to the linkage anymore... |

Ratbuell, I have called several dealers in the country. Pellis gave me the phone number of a dealer that I talked to, and for a brief moment, I got all excited about getting my hands on a set of latches. The hard truth is, they are no longer made and for what I can tell(several phone calls, including American Biker in California)nobody has them on the shelves any more. They are not going to be easy to find. SteveO, may have some, he is in Australia. I want to thank everybody that help me out with comments and possible leads. Next I'll be extracting the front broken motor mount bolt that broke inside the cylinder head. Bought the kit from American Bikers, (2)Bolts and extractor for about $35 Thanks again and if you guys are ever in Charleston, SC let me know!!!!! |
