Ok so i am going to make my own wind screen. I have a planishing hammer and a english wheel i want to use aluminum what thickness should i use and what type? |

5052 will work great as it hardens as its cold worked. 12 gauge? somewhere in that area would be decent. maybe thinner. |

When hand forming aluminum you want to use 1100 series anything else is alloyed and heat treated and cannot be formed easily. .025" thickness works well. |

that is definately not correct information to give Edv. 1100 is 99% pure aluminum. Not what he would want to use. Trust me... stick with 5052. (Message edited by foximus on October 19, 2012) |

Couldn't tell you about the different alloys, but .025 sound too thin, from what I see doing aircraft sheetmetal work I would think .040 maybe .032. |

I concur, 5052 works well on Aircraft as far as an English wheel will go. .032 thickness is a good start, anything thicker and you will most likely make a career of it. |
