Well I had to change my triple tree bearings so I decided to polish the triples while I had it all apart. First start out with the RED conditioning disc to remove the casting mark be very carefully use low rpm Next use the GREEN conditioning disc to remove the rough casting sand marks get a semi smooth surface. USE LIGHT PRESSURE Now time to wet sand with 220 grit use a small piece of flat bar or such time to work out the waves created by the Conditioning discs with 220 grit wet After wet sanding with 1500 almost polished by hand lot of hours and a beer later Next head over to the buffer I used the red clay first to remove the fine scratches followed by the white bar Use very light pressure Clean with lcd cloth I got mine at walmart (MICROFIBER will scratch the finish) Optional you could clear coat them for low maintenance Cost Harbor freight 10 for conditioning disc kit Item#94196 40 for buffer 94393 12 8" Buffing Wheel Set 5 for buffing compound kit 4 welding gloves #39664 HOURS A SHIT LOAD I suggest finding a friend with OCD to polish them out for yah (Message edited by wack01 on October 15, 2012) (Message edited by wack01 on October 15, 2012) |

I polished mine using the same method and oddly enough the same supplier (Harbor Freight). I was really surprised how bright they polished up. Nice work! |

Very nice.I think the polishing gene went out of me when I sold my last HD to buy my first Buell. |

Those look beautiful! I used a flat file to remove the casting seam, and then went to a 3M flap disk (sandcloth layered with scotch brite pads). Then went to wet sanding around 500 grits as my starting point. But I only polished the outer faces, not top an bottom, reason for that is bottom is pointed at the ground, top, pointed at my face and I already have sensitive eyes, don't need to torture my self that way. Other fun filing/polishing projects - shifter, brake pedal, exhaust headers. Swing arm was on the list, but it's just gonna go black instead. I've got an XB swingarm I've been working on polishing as a potential quick turn around for a few bucks... it waits, and waits, and waits in my garage, still needs to be finished up, that's what decided me against doing the M2's swingarm. |
