I'm thinking about retiring my Kawasaki concours zg1000 for a buell. Theres a 2001 cyclone on craigslist for $2600 with 15k on the clock. It has a salvage title and apparently a mileage discrepancy although the owner says the indicated mileage is accurate. He also says the speedometer jumps around. Does this seem like a good buy? What should I look out for when checking it out? Am I going to regret trading my bomb-proof japanese bike for something...American? |

I would look out for bikes with salvage titles and questionable mileage. For $2600 you could find a clean M2 with righteous title and accurate mileage. I'd keep shopping. |

Many M2's had blown speedo sensors more than once... if somebody was literally accurate on the title due to just a short sensor failure, that could be rippling down to future owners. Or it could be a new speedo and who knows *how* many miles on the bike. I wouldn't reject a salvage title bike outright, but for sure I would price it in. My Uly has a salvage title right now, and its a great bike, but over the last year I have found a steady stream of accident or accident repair related issues that I have to keep chasing down. None a big deal but all some level of hassle. If the bike looked and ran great in person, and you could get it for $2000, it would be a pretty neat bike for that price. You will have some issues with any tubers, but nothing you can't sort pretty easily, and they really are neat bikes. |

I actually ended up grabbing the bike as a companion for my millennium X1. Seems pretty solid. I've put about a 100 miles on it so far. It needs tires but I think every used bike I've ever bought needed tires... The old Buells still seem to command a decent price in the northeast but that's because they keep getting chopped up into "customs"

Wow, looks good to me. Corbin GunFighter+Lady seat, carbon-fiber ham can air cleaner. Looks pretty sharp. Can't believe the prices on these things now... |
