Some tubers had taller gearing than others. My S1W is geared shorter than my S2 - maybe someone has specs around here that have front/rear combos for different models. You can mix and match sprockets to get what you want. If you want something super-different...you could go chain, or get a Baker six speed for an overdrive gear. |

Lets define "TALLER GEARING": Taller gearing referring to more top speed ... Lower gearing is referring to less top speed and more grunt out of the corners ... If you put less teeth(ie:26T) on the counter shaft sprocket you lower the gearing ... If you put more teeth on the rear wheel sprocket you lower the gearing you lower the gearing ... IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BOTHER RE-CALABRATING THE ELECTRONIC SPEEDO SENSOR YOU CHANGE THE MOTORS SPROCKET TEETH ... If you increase the number of teeth on the motor sprocket you will get more top end if you engine has the power to pull the taller gearing which translates to less RPM at 80 MPH ... My 1997 S3T came OEM with a 29T counter shaft sprocket and the later Models came with a 27T counter shaft sprocket which was BMC's way of getting CHEAP TORQUE by loosing a few MPH at top end(WOT) ... "i" tried the 27T sprocket(lot more RPM's), "BUT" it was not for me as "i" like to run 80 MPH on the INTERSTATE ... YOU GEAR YOUR ENGINE FOR WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO WITH IT AS IT IS ANOTHER WAY OF TUNING YOUR ENGINE ... |

I want to run at 80 with lower RPMs. Do I just need to find a 29T sprocket for a Sportster with the same pitch? In XB world, we could swap out 9 primary for 12 to lower the gearing or 12 for 9 for taller gearing. Is there a comparable swap for Tubers? |

80 mph is 3800 and change, how much rpm drop do you want? Edit, I just went for a ride on the X1. (Message edited by Jramsey on September 30, 2012) |

Your PARTS BOOK should have the Part Number for a 29T ... My Parts Book says my 29T is a retro fit from a SPORTSTER ... "BUT" if you have a electronic speedo, IMHO you should put a XB12 motor sprocket ... "i" put a XB12 motor sprocket on my BLAST ... You have to understand that there is a lot of PARTS that retro fit to all HD platforms, "BUT" the key is finding a real PARTS MAN that knows ... |

I have a 29T Buell sprocket that I bought before coming across a reasonably-priced 6-speed. Don't think I'll ever use the 29 sprocket now. It might be aluminum though, magnet won't stick except to the center ring splines. In case that makes a difference. I had a spreadsheet showing the difference in rpm at different speeds, comparing a motor sprocket change vs a pulley change, but would have to search for it now. |

Get a set of Uk spec pulleys .....most of us have converted to the lower USA gearing we are 29/55 you are 27/61 makes a big difference |

maybe someone has specs around here that have front/rear combos for different models S2 & S2-T: 29 front/61 rear all other* models: DOM 27 front/61 rear HDI 29 front/55 rear * = air cooled tube framed twins, NOT valid for XB's, Blast!, or 1125 The HDI gearing is not all that fun with the typical US speed limits, IMHO... 1313 |

I would like to try the 29T sprocket. Seems a fairly simply way to accomplish what I am looking for. At 80, I'm taching right at 4,000. I'd like to drop that down a bit for interstate travel. |

LoL. Well I cant go that extensively. But that is actually a Belt Drives LTD pulley that was then cut down even more.... I might have to have mine done like that... I bet that dropped close to 3/4 a pound.... |

For every 12 pounds you can remove from the weight of you motorcycle and your body you gain one FREE ROLLING HORSE POWER that will not show up on a DYNO !!! |

FT... yes you can take a dump and accomplish the same weight loss... but not the same. Your dump is not a rotating mass. (or i hope it isn't) Go read my write up here. Jayvee... where did you get that pulley cut? http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/693367.html?1348316867 |
