I have both bikes the X1 has a NRHS kit on it ( 1250cc and ported heads) will a full D&D exhaust (headers and muffler) with a well tuned race ECM, and aK&N air filter. The uly has a EBR ECM a D&D Exahust, ipen air box and K&N air filter. my question is, both bikes are by far different, but on a street drag both bikes were very close to each other, they both performed quite similar. on the twisties the Uly out performed the X1, the X1 at mid corner has a kind of balancing, that the Uly doesent have. So from your knowledge is there a way to sort out the balancing of the X1? |

What do you mean by balancing? |

Mid-range your compression and rebound on the forks and the rear shock. Tune from there. |

when i enter the curve it's stable at mid curve it starts to wobble and exiting it gets stable again, with the uly the bike is stable on every twist. |

Frame flex. Tubers are great pieces of engineering. XB's handle like they're cut from a block of solid billet. If you hit a bump and the X1 started wobbling...up your compression damping some and see if that helps. If it just "does it" mid-turn...it's the frame flexing and it's just the nature of the beast. My S2 "talks" to me all the time. I know it's going to happen, I'm prepared for it, and it's always a lovely conversation. |

I get the impression from the description that your tires might be to blame for that squirrly behavior. Are they worn? Pressure OK? Back when my X1 had a functioning rear shock, it handled very sharp. (Yeah, I have to get on that) |

I don't buy frame flex. If it were a Kawasaki, then yes, but not Buell. No frame flex in my bikes. |

Tyres are fine the rear one is new and the front one is 3/4 life left, i guess i need to learn a lot by riding it more. Thanks for the replies, i never had ridden a tube frame bike before with a big engine. |

It is indeed a fact that the X-frames are stiffer than tubers. How that affects handling is largely dependent on suspension, chassis set-up, and rider. Back when tubers and XB's raced together there were still some tubers running up front. Once the contingencies ended for tubers that did as well. They did have a huge advantage in having developed them for years. Being a tuber guy I can admit that XB's are better bikes all around. I think the tubers are funner and have more "personality." |

i have never had any issues with my x1 in the corners at any point, i agree with the others maybe tires or suspension settings. |

Got the Michelin PR3's on the Uly without the chicken strips, like them very much. |

At the risk of stating the obvious, a five year old tire with 90% thread handles a lot worse than the same the tire with 50% thread but only a year old. Specially with front tires which seem to last awhile and they are the ones mainly responsible for the "whobbly" mid-corner feeling. At least that's been my experience. |

Could be that the isolators on the X1 are worn, although the X1 and Uly are worlds apart in terms of handling anyway and the Uly should always be better due to a more modern design. The rear shock/suspension system on the X1 is never going to be as good as the Uly and the shock can actually flex in use, which may explain your feeling of instability. If the isolaters are worn it will feel worse. |

Isolators are fine, they were replaced not long ago tyres are not aged (cristalized) I guess i need to have a double switch brain one for the uly one for the X1 |
