Author Message   Kfry Posted on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - 07:39 pm:        So I have a 1999 buell x1 and it is not running unfortunately. The fuel pump does not engage when I turn the ignition key, I have bench tested and the fuel pump works. I do not know what is wrong and could use some insight to what i should do now. I already checked the fuses and switched the relays and both seem to work. From here on out, I will call "ground wires" earth wires. Too cool!   Bikerrides Posted on Friday, September 21, 2012 - 10:07 am:        Having recently replaced a bad ignition switch, that's where I might start, assuming there are no visible shorts or broken wires. Like was mentioned before, jump the wires for the ignition switch and see what happens. If everything that's supposed to happen when you turn on the ignition indeed happens, it's the ignition switch. Easy and inexpensive to fix, unless you use HD parts and labor. I spent $25 to replace mine and did it myself in about an hour.   Steveford Posted on Saturday, September 22, 2012 - 09:01 pm:        Would those stupid safety switches for the kickstarter and clutch kill the fuel pump? If so, jump the wires together to bypass the idiot devices.   Preybird1 Posted on Saturday, September 22, 2012 - 10:10 pm:        +1 on jump the ignition and the safety switches. only 3 wires on the ignition easy to start\steal if you ask me? (Check the kill switch also if you use it) I bet money the bank angle sensor is moving around or is bad. It's a tricky spot to see if you don't look for it. When this little sucker goes bad or moves it will do all sorts of things unnatural. It will shut the bike down while you are riding it. Or it wont start at all. A definite must check item.   Kevmean Posted on Sunday, September 23, 2012 - 12:48 pm:        If you suspect the bank angle sensor to be faulty just unplug it to test ........bike will still run without but just throws up a fault code
