Nice look, but even with the Ohlins goodies it's gonna handle like poo. Backbone frames like to flex...a LOT. It's also a rigid-mount engine so you can mix paint as you go down the road - the rubber mount engine debuted (on an XL) in '04). I think it'd be a fun ride, but if you want a sport bike...buy a sport bike. Nice look, cool theory, but "out-corners sport bikes"? Hmmm.... |

They handle ok to a point (as rat pointed out). It's no sportbike but for semi-legal blasting around such a bike should be a good time. I've always thought a street-legal replica of one ah these would be fun:

Ratbuell nailed it: it's a Sportster with a few Buell parts. It ain't a Buell. Solid mount engine, flexy frame, Harley brake calipers and a peanut tank? Why? At least these were cool:

Why? "Nostalgic" handling. |

As a disclaimer: I rode the pi$$ out of my S1W today, fresh from reinstalling the Penske-rebuilt Penske shock. I'd forgotten how GOOD that motorcycle is. And, riding the pi$$ out of my S2 last week...I tanked up and averaged 53 mpg. All week. Being mean to the bike. All week. I doubt I'd get that enjoyment out of a hotted-up, rigid-mount XL. With XL brakes, as noted above by Greg. But...to each their own. |

I'm think like S1owner. Looks like a great run around bike. Cool look. More of a cafe style conversion not a sport bike. |

My solid mount sporty vibed about add much as most buells I have ridden. Its a diffident kind if ride, and I am on a buell so you can probably guess which I prefer. That said if I ever bought another sportster I would prefer a solid mount with 70 something lbs lighter starting point, plus there were still more r models pre 04 I actually sold my parts s1 front end, brake and wheels, to a guy for a sporty build. The guys bike turned out pretty nice. (Message edited by thatdirtykid on September 17, 2012) |

Vibration on your Buells should NOT be even close to a rigid-mount Sportster. Man, SOMETHING has to be wrong. Your profile says S3. All four of my Tubers (including a 2001 S3) are buttery smooth above 2500-3000 RPM. The 883 Sportster I rode definitely shook worse. |

I'd ride it, but the rear "fender" needs a rethink. |

I like I don't consider my daily commute appropriate for exploring my Buell's capabilities. The fact that both cruiser and sportbike riders would hate it makes it all the more palatable. Cafe racers are cool. As much as I hate to admit it I love the XL engine. It'd be hard to buy a bike powered by anything else. My Sporty had a very well balanced motor and the major comfortable seat and rubber mounted handlebars made it equally comfy. My s3's isolators and mounts are all in good shape, and it doesn't vibe much, the sporty Monday have had more but not enough to make it significantly less comfy. I have ridden an s1 that vibed more than either. My post was more stating that they don't vibe significantly more than similar bikes. 883s are known to vibe more than large displacement bikes. |

Rick, I'm with you on the XL engine. That's why I hunted down a nice Buell to buy so I can give my Sporty some cosmetic love (and chase down some electric gremlins). It's a modified 95 1200. Yes it is a rigid and After 17 years of riding it, I can tell instantly when I need to clean the air filter or if there is any sort of problem. I also like the bike in that picture. If the SO didn't like riding passenger so much, I would convert to a solo seat similar to the one they used. As far as vibration, my S3 is worse below ~2000 rpm, but smooth as silk above that. My sportster engine is really noisy after the 89" stroker upgrade though. |
