So a few months ago, I put a new clutch in my bike. Just bought the cheapest kevlar one I could find... the energy systems. Bought it from dennis kirk. Half mindedly wrote a little one sentence review for it. Week later I received an email that I won the $150 gift card for writing a review. Nice. Took me 3 months to mail in the paperwork because I was lazy... So last night I finally ordered a lightweight aluminum front pulley. Figured at $130 its something that is cool, but not a necessity and would not have ordered with my own money. (was just planning on lathing down the cast iron one actually). I've been wanting to gear down anyway, but the 28 was out of stock... so I went ahead and ordered the 29 tooth. We'll see how it is with a mix of UK gearing and the loss of weight. Also ordered a new ignition, since mine busted last week. Spent $5.95 on the order and had free shipping. How fun.... Getting closer on my swing arm, but progress is slow. To many other projects in the way. Had to buy a new turbo for my El Camino yesterday... Also bought new wheels. And $400 of traffic tickets today... =\ Expensive week.... On the bright side, I think I might win a truck of the month contest and win $200 on a forum. Care to vote for me? haha. This is just my late night ramble...

Yea. Its pretty much just a XB tensioner that I milled up, cut up, drilled up, and welded. Front end is 03 XB tuned up a bit, and 1125 ztl2 |

I dont have a better picture really... But its a type of air cleaner I've been lathing up from my race ski parts. It works better and smaller than any other air filter i've used. nice velocity stack with a focal cone on the end cap. I've offered to make them before. Thanks sleez! I thought the 20's would be too big at first, but after driving it for a week and having the rear lowered, the car really swallows them up well. Plus... it makes it look even... especially when you hear that turbo scream... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT1cQGyvs9s&feature=plcp (Message edited by foximus on September 15, 2012) |

depends on what jetting you have already. My bike was way way rich with my previous K&N filter.... This brought it right in. Then I did some reshaping to the vacuum slide, and think I ruined my tune a bit. LoL. |

Gaaaahh.. Who knew finding a 1 7/8" socket was soo difficult. Nobody sells them. I managed to find one at harbor freight, but it is in a $70 combo kit. And its a 1" drive. So I'd have to buy 2 adapters to get it down to 1/2" for my impact... or more likely just weld a 1/2" socket onto the back... and not be able to return it. |

I found a 1 1/8" and a 1 13/16" both at Auto Zone for less than a fortune, maybe $8-10, and I found a nice kit with four different 1/4-3/8" and 3/8-1/2" adapters. Maybe they have your socket? |

I tried Autozone, Advance Auto, Napa, Home Depot, and Harbor Frieght. The biggest any had was 1 3/16" or 38mm. I'm going to try my impact hammer to get my nut off... |

Here's a variety of 1 7/8 in sockets http://www.toolking.com/search/?q=1+7+8+socket+ Careful, some of the search results are 7/8". |

My toolbox is full of one-off use sockets. The best home-made tool for me. The grade 8 bolt turned into a hex key. Just to remove the front axle from a Yamaha. |

Impact hammer didn't work.... I went down to Pep boys... my friend is manager there... They had one. Hooked it up to an impact. No Dice. Hooked it up to a bigger impact. No Dice. Brought out the big boy 950 ft/lbs impact wrench. Started to creep... Kept pounding... A little more creep. Zoom. Sheared off all the threads. It was reverse threaded. LMAO. Luckily it was just the nut threads that sheared. 5th gear shaft threads were still perfect. Also. It seems someone had already converted to the UK gearing of the 29 tooth pulley. I am disappointed. So now I wish I had ordered the 30 or 31 tooth pulley.... Oh well. New aluminum pully on. Looks good, though I wish it was annodized something a bit more garrish than the dull gun metal. Or at least had some speed holes drilled in it for effect.... |

Left hand thread, I had forgotten that, thanks for the heads up! Have you looked into having it anodized locally? Might be a wait if they want to throw it in with a batch of other stuff, but if they do a lot of business you might could get it done pretty quick. |

Meh. Its on the bike. Its not a big deal. If I wasn't so excited about putting it on in a hurry I would have machined some holes around its body just for looks... it only woul d have dropped .07 of a pound... but so what. If it comes off again, I'll be doing that before anythign else.... haha. But yes. Left hand thread. Still disappointed i already had the 29 tooth front pully....=[ Cant believe how heavy that Cast Iron one was. Now just to find a spare rear pulley to have machined down. So... heres my Review. I always thought this would be a cool upgrade. But nothing very special about it. Yes its reducing weight, and I'm sure you'd see it on a dyno, but I figured that overall the weight of the flywheel and wheel, and gearing reductions are overall more than what this reduction would effect largely. Now that being said, If I had NOT won the gift card I would have never spent my own cash on this. SO... What do I think? Its absolutely awesome. I did not expect much of anything different, so I would not say I'm biased to placebo effect. This pulley weighs flat at 2 lbs. The power rolls on much smoother and faster. It doesnt feel like I have MORE power of coarse, It just feels to be more spunky, as the motor doesnt have to Build power as much to get rolling faster. Front of the bike comes up smoother now. Having trouble keeping the wheel on the ground when I'm pinning it in the turns. I'm very much riding wheelies through the apex of anything less than a sweeper. NOW here is a bonus that I was not expecting at all. The bike has become more nimble. And it took me a few minutes to figure out why. I assumed at first it was because I adjusted the swing arm differently. BUT, this is now 4lbs lighter, on a ~6" diameter wheel, spinning anywhere between 1000-8000 rpms. Thats a rather decent enough mass to have a fairly good gyroscopic effect. Overall, this was a great purchase for my imaginary $130. I would recommend going to one. As a bonus, it comes with a new pulley seal, locking collar, and pulley nut. I bought the Belt Drives LTD brand because thats what Dennis Kirk carries, but if I had my druthers I would have gone with the slightly lighter Baker Specialties. The key here is rotating mass! I learned when my sons were factory riders on bmx bikes that every ounce of rotating mass that you can get rid of has an affect. The key is not hurting the structural integrity which you didnt! You could take a pound of dead weight off the frame and it would not be noticed compared to 3 ounces off a rotating part! |
