I have small hands, so a set of adjustable ASV is OTW. In the mean time, I would like to rotate the brake lever 'downward' a bit so I would not have to slightly twist my wrist to use the front brake lever, either just to rest the fingers on it or to use it. The problem is the hard brake line from the master cylinder down to the joint at the right fork. That line have very specific bends in its routing and am wary of putting any stresses on it in trying to rotate the lever down a bit. 1- Is it possible and safe, as in does not affect brake pressure, to replace this hard line with a flexible one, like the segment from the fork leg to the caliper? My impression is -- yes. If anything, I would like to replace both segments with one continuous flexible line. 2- Does anyone make such a replacement? 3- Can a local auto/brake specialist shop rig up something like this? Am no specialist in hydrastics but I think that as long as tube diameter/length and strength are appropriate, it should not matter if the line is hard or flex. |

Braided brake lines can be purchased in any number of lengths. See your favorite bike shop and have one ordered. Buell used braided lines briefly on the X1. Not sure which years, but that's what I'm using. |

Edited and refined my search and it looks like there are plenty of pre-made steel braided lines out there. Was pessimistic because Buell is no longer in business and with an old model at that. (Message edited by roderick on September 10, 2012) |

J&P Cycle has a nice variety of lines and fittings in any combination you can think up. I have braided stainless from the MC to the caliper |

For those tuning in late...braided lines are ordered with three criteria: Overall length Tubing diameter End fittings / fitting angles / fastener sizes. That's it. Measure twice, install once |

Got the new Spiegler line installed. Now it looks much cleaner with a single continuous line than the old hard/flex two piece line. Bleeding the new line did took some work and time. Could not get any pressure with the lever. Had to remove the caliper and push back the pistons and heard gurgling through the line all the way back up to the master cylinder. Then 'gravity bled' the line for about an hr. Then as soon as the lever was pumped, bubbles appeared and pressure increased. Front brake now works faster and better than before. Lever pressure is also higher and travels shorter. (Message edited by roderick on September 19, 2012) |
