My X1 almost never breaks down but when it does it sucks. Yesterday my voltage regulator came unplugged and I was stranded in the country with no cell phone. Luckily it was an easy fix, but I hate not having tools with me. So my hope (with your help) is to build a tool kit for the most common/basic Buell failures on he road. For example maybe pliers, common wrench sizes for "Buell" (axle nut possible) spare belt, tire repair kit, etc, and have it all fix under the seat in a bag. What do you carry in your tool kit? |

Needle nose vicegrips and duct tape. Anything else is overkilloverkill (Message edited by thylacine on September 10, 2012) |

The most overlooked and forgotten tool in your kit is...wait for it...AN EXTRA KEY!

Plus one on the needle nose vicegrips. That is all I use to carry on S1 (just clamped in on out of site, no need for a tool bag). Sure enough my negative battery failed 80 miles from home and clamped the broken end of the cable onto the battery and got it home. Now I carry a few more tools but the needle nose vicegrips are the first thing I include. |

I have one of those folding Leatherman gizmos with pliers and a folding allen wrench set under the seat and my Allstate roadside assistance card in my wallet. Fortunately I almost always ride within cell phone range. Extra key sounds like a good idea, but not under the seat... |

I'm guilty of ridin' tool-less as well. So consensus is: small leatherman (how about a swiss-knife 'Tinker' or the like?), needle-nose vise-grips, and Duct-tape. Maybe a few zip-ties, or a piece of baling wire too? (My grampa's all-purpose tool kit was a pair of pliers and a little roll of baling wire.) |
