I bought a SS2R from the forum ( thx Buellish : ) ) needing a mount repair. Look for pics on the repair asap just in case it might help someone else

I replaced the OEM (tractor) muffler this afternoon. I took the VH apart to brace the inside, so I put it on 'empty'. Once it was all mounted I couldn't slip the packing it without removing it, so I skipped it. ( getting a new header in 2 weeks anyway ) Put in the perforated baffle and the end cap and took off.

PROs:
sounds cool at idle
loud and fun here and there
climbs even faster 4k - 5k
obviously lighter

CONs:
too loud to sneak out at night while the Mrs is sleeping
stumbles at 3k ( was my old roll-on point)
doesn't pull now until 3400
very minor decel pop

bike is jetted. It had a straight pipe on it when I bought it. Workmanship was crappy so I went OEM to take stress off header.

I'm grateful to own a M2 after drooling over the RS1200 years ago. Even with the Happy Dinosaur motor it's a great ride. I may cut up an old H-D baffle and put a diversion path in the VH baffle.

opinions please? Thx

When I got my X1 the pipe was empty and the baffle was broken loose. It was very loud and left my ears ringing after a long ride. Once I got it fixed and properly packed it sounded a lot like it did but doesn't deafen me and at low idle its not too loud.

I'd try repacking before I added a baffle you might like it.

I wrap the packing with cheap wire to hold it all together for assembly, worked well for me.

Al at American Sport Bike sells a packing wrap here:
http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5927.html ,you will also see a loose wrap listed on the same page.
I used the loose packing on my Buell race can.You can control the amount you put in with the loose stuff although the wrap looks a lot easier.

I went to my local hardware store and got a small roll of fiberglass insulating wrap. I think it was like 6" X 3 or 4'. Just used some string to keep it tight until I could get it in then it would probably shrivel up or burn off.

I have seen a posting where one of us had used the door rope for a wood burning stove to wrap the baffle. It should last a long time considering the heat that it is designed to withstand.Thinking about doing it for my FORCE modified baffle.
