I have a 2000 S/3, and need to remove the lock cylinder from the frame. I can't find anything on how it's done from the shop book that I have. Has anyone had any luck removing one, short of drilling, torch, large hammer??? |

Drilling it out is actually pretty easy. The tumbler is really soft. |

DON'T drill it out! I removed mine recently.when I did, I was able to see the exposed greased steering bearings. Removing it would expose the bearings to the weather. I dremeled off the locking mechanism so now the tumblers do nothing. From the outside you can't tell that my steering lock is neutered To remove steering lock: (from memory, be warned!) remove the little set screw next to the lock. Jack up the front wheel or at least take the weight off. remove handlebars and instrument cluster. loosen the two fork tube clamp screws loosen the stem nut screw enough to allow the triple clamp to be separated from the lower triple clamp. the lock should come right out at this point. The actual thing that locks the steering is a cylindrical thing with a slice taken out of it. That's what I cut off. (the reason for cutting it off is a story for another time/thread) |

Yes I have the key. Actually I changed all the other locks with my other S/3 except for the stem lock, another long story. I'm trying to R/R locks between the two bikes.} |
