I did a search but only found old threads.... OK stock tires are 17 yrs old.... not going to run them too long for sure.. plus I didn't like the Dunlop's that much I have pilot 2's on my beemer & love them!! What are you guys running??? recommendations ??? Why?? Not too worried about the mileage life but I want to STICK  170 rear or 180 have the Marchesini's on the bike. Thanks Ride Safe Chris | ||

I use and like Metzler Z-6 tires but have many customers now running the Pilot 2`s like you say and like them so I guess you answered your own question there if you like them on the Beemer you will like them on the S2 | ||

180 fits fine...but, the bike will turn into corners a little slower. Not a big differance....but noticeable. Ride safe......Jack | ||

+1 on the BT023. They outperformed the Pirelli Angel ST for me, in handling and mileage, and they cost less. | ||

Pilot Road 3, because the PR2 isn't made anymore. Stock sizes. Have them on three Buells and a ZX11. Won't run anything else. The Brigestones had vague feel (VERY noticeable change on the ZX11, going to PR2). Dunlop Road Smarts sucked so badly that I removed a brand new one on the front of the S3, gave it away and installed a PR2. 90% of my riding is twisty roads (Angeles Crest Highway or similar). Everybody has different riding environments and--therefore--different preferences for tires. Match your tires to your riding style. | ||

I just put a set of Pirelli Diablo Rosso II's on my S2 a couple months ago and love them. 170 on the front and 180 on the rear. The tread wraps way around and I still have a half inch chicken strip on the sides of the rear, but I'll work on that..... | ||

Actually, a 180 on a Marchi rim will tip in faster. I put one on my S2 (a PR2) about 8k miles ago with a matching front PR2, and since it's "pinched" onto a narrow rim, the profile is pointier than its designed to be, and it "falls" off-center faster. I went wider because at the time I didn't have a Ulysses, and the S2 was my "bagger"...so I went wider for weight carrying (saddlebags, passenger, etc). I guess I'm getting good miles out of it - I don't think 10k is out of the question - but I really don't like the way it falls off-center. I'll be putting the stock 170 on when (if) this one ever wears out I put a 170 PR3 on my S1W (with matching 120 front) and it handles like a dream. Almost like...it was supposed to have that size on it. | ||

I was concerned when I put the 180 Pirelli on my bike in place of the dunlop 170, but believe it or not I took a measurement on each side, of the distance from the widest edge of the tire to the inside of the swingarm and the Pirelli 180 is narrower by a sixteenth of an inch on each side than the 170 Dunlop. I also found this to be true on a different brand of tire on my Guzzi. So I'm wondering if tire sizes are like pants or shoes in that the "actual" size is not as consistent as what we are led to believe, depending on manufacturer? Anyone have any thoughts on this? | ||

I forgot to mention that the Dunlop I took off was a 170/60 and the Pirelli I put on is a 180/55. both tires have virtually the same height. | ||

4speeder Tire sizes do vary from one manufacturer to another not by much usually but they do vary Ed | ||

I should check in more often. Hopefully you got a 170. The PO put a 180 on my bike. Unfortunately it interfered with the rear fender and cut a chunk out of it. If you did get a 180 make sure you check clearance and shim accordingly. | ||

Yes 170 for on resr cast wheels. Gonna prop put the PM wheels from the bike I am picking up tonight & put Thea's on that. Than I will prob go 120/180 RP3's. Is the hugger the same on all s2 bikes?? Thanks Ride Safe Chris | ||

Put a new Metzler Z6 180/55ZR-17 on the S2 today got 10,200 miles out of the last one previous one went 12,000. I didn`t do anything different that I know of so I am not sure why the difference other than maybe the previous one was an exceptional tire | ||

Really like the Dunlop Roadsmarts on the S2. Ride quality and turn-in characteristics similar to Dunlop's 208 GP (D.O.T. race tires) but with longer lasting rubber. Prefer the Dunlops to the Bridgestone 020's (may not even be available anymore). Wear and grip weren't too bad with the Bridgestones, but didn't like the turn-in characteristics. Shorter tire with flatter profile than the Dunlop, needed to lean way over before the bike would begin to change direction. |
