What a weird day. So, I've been lurking for a while, lots of great information on this site. Well, It looks like, after almost 20 years of not acting on my Buellish urges, I am finally joining the ranks - and on the same model that lit that fire so many years ago. It was weird how it came down. I sitting in a rest area in Western PA and an old smoky pickup truck pulls in. Loaded on the back is a big tarp , and I can see from the shape, it's a bike. Dude driving the truck gets out and starts rooting around under the tarp...and he pulls it back enough to see that it's some sort of sport bike. I wandered over to check it out. "Nice bike, man" I offered. Dude spins around, sees me, Says "Yeah -Its a Bull" "A Bull? I've never heard of those" I reply "Is it rare?" Pancho nodded "The real name is BulTaco - but everyone call's 'em Bulls. I think this was a racing bike - I'm going to build a canyon jumper out of it." Now I remember Bultaco from my wasted youth...and this didn't look like any one I had ever seen. "BulTaco, that's a Spanish bike, isn't it?" "Yeah" the dude says. They're REALLY rare. I got this one from some guy that put all this custom crap on it." "Weird what people will do, isn't it?" I said, taking a closer look at what I can see...whatever it is, it has PM wheels...I stick out my hand and introduce myself "John" "Pancho" the guy replies. "So, Canyon jumping, huh? - that sounds like it would be a sort of rough on the bike" I said "Yeah, well, Its something I want to try. I have a brother-in-law who's into it and he said I should go out and find a BulTaco because they're great for it and he has a lot of parts" "Yeah, I imagine he'd need them" I offered. "Can I check it out?" Pancho considered it, said, "Sure" and pulled back the tarp. Sitting there was not any Bultaco at all, but a 1995 S2. I said "Wow" under my breath and gave it a once over. Whoever owned it obviously loved it - all the marks of pride of ownership are there. "You said you just got it" "Yeah, the guy who had it said he's moving to Florida and can't take it, so I got a great deal" Pancho replied, and started talking about his plans to turn this customized Bultaco back into a dirt bike...said he'd get rid of those "Stupid" forks and lengthen the swingarm. After about 5 minutes of this, I couldn't take it..."Dude!" I exclaimed. "That's not a BulTaco, It's a Buell!" Pancho stopped talking and spun to look at me. "What's a Buell?" "It's some old bike company that went out of business. They used to stick Harley Sportster motors in their own frame. Look, it says "Buell" right on the tank. Pancho looked at the tank again...squinted, cussed, went back to the cab of the truck, and grabbed some glasses. These looked like they were made from Coke bottle bottoms. (I made a mental note to make sure he left long before I did, because if he wasn't driving with those glasses on, he likely couldn't see squat) He wiped them of, put them on, squinted through the glasses at the tank, and said "Shit. I thought that guy just was calling it a Bull, because that's what my brother-in-law calls them". Pancho looked like someone had taken a dump in his Wheaties. "Man, I been looking for my own Bull forever. I thought this was it! Damnit, I hope that dude will take it back...I don't want a Sportster" My heart leaped into my throat. "Do you mind me asking what you paid for it? I'm actually looking for one of these". He told me, and than added "I thought that price was low for a racing Bull" I commiserated with him while silently marveling at the great price he paid for this classic. I paused, then plunged ahead "You know, I'd buy it off you for what you paid for it..." Pancho said "Really? For a SPORTSTER with a weird frame?" "Sure...I rode one of these years ago and always wanted one. " Pancho thought for a second, then agreed. We spent an hour or so running to my bank, unloading the bike and such, then he hit me with "Oh yeah, the guy I got it from threw in a bunch of extra parts", and proceeded to pull out of the cab a complete separate set of bodywork, manuals, pegs, and a whole lot of documentation. Holy Carp! I love it when Karma comes around! (Message edited by Lynrd on August 03, 2012) |

I'll see if I can finger out how to make pictures work. I'm not really great at internets. |

Nice. Did he have the original air cleaner in the pile of parts? And is that a chain drive? |

....Potentially, but it's SO much better here. In reality, I stumbled onto BWB from Don Castos page, while researching a 99 S3T that looked promising. Turns out that one had some title issues I wasn't comfortable with (now apparently resolved, if anyone is looking for a nice one) and then I found the classified section and this gorgeous bike from Jsunstar. We traded some e-mails and did the deed last night, and I got a call from him a bit ago that the bike is loaded onto the skid for shipping to it's new home, California, where it will NOT be chopped or molested. It will, however, be ridden a lot :-)...see y'all at Alice's! After we did the money thing, I saw his posts about selling the bike to a chopper builder named "Poncho" and decided to have some fun with it. |

Thank God it was saved from a torrid life as a canyon jumper! Just what the hell is a canyon jumper anyway? |
