Have a 1997 S3T with 111,731.9 miles as of the last ride ... Had me on the side of the road three times, 1998 when "i" bounced off a car, when the front motor mount broke because of improper assembly at the STEALERSHIP from the 1998 crash, and a broken drive belt because the being maladjusted from the STEALERSHIP when new which shortened its life ... |

Oh it has been taken care of, recent oil change, new spark plugs, gasket kit, sprockets, chain and I havent even put 1000 miles on it since I bought it. Was running great then started what sounded like "pinging" and then the motor let go riding on the freeway. No compression in rear and maybe 20lbs in front. The whole bike was screwed from the get go, former track bike that was totally cobbled together, likely in a backyard. It was a very bad purchase and I paid for it. Sold 500 bucks, needless to say last buell I will ever own. |

I know I shouldnt judge all buells from this bad experience, it was awesome when working right but just so problematic I would feel too jinxed on another one if thats understandable. |

I can't say that I blame you. After all, you did change the oil. That bike should have run perfectly forever, you know, being a "cobbled together" ex-track bike and all. |

If a "cobbled together" ex track bike isn't a perfect indication of all that manufacturers motorcycles, I don't know what is. Logic at work. I only wish I could have bought it off you. |

Wow sarcastic bullshit I said clearly its not a judge of all buells but when you have that bad of an experience it really jades you. Yes, "run perfectly forever," did I say that? I didnt even get to ride it a full summer, not even 2 months there Kilroy and I admitted it was a bad purchase. Damn have a little freakin empathy instead giving me crap, I tied up a lot of money and emotion in the damn thing. Simply the worst purchase I ever made happened to be a buell, it could have been any make. A very intelligent and astute bunch on this forum I must say. Just joined this forum less than a week before this happened, just thought Id share my experience and thoughts, not trying to bash buells ok fellas. Pull the panties outta your ass crack. |

I'd wager that most motorcycle purchases are emotional buys, how many of us NEED a motorcycle? Even as practical transportation as an S3 can be (hard bags, 45+ mpg, decent windshield...) After you get some distance from this event remember your post "The whole bike was screwed from the get go, former track bike that was totally cobbled together, likely in a backyard." I just wonder why I don't hear these comments about YamahonaKawizuki's when has been, used up motorcycles fail to meet expectations. Maybe it's only because I hang on a Buell board, but people just seem to want to hate Buells at the drop of a hat sometimes, we get touchy about that here. Sorry your S3 didn't work out for you Scott. There are many well maintained Buells for sale in the classifieds here, maybe you'll give them another shot in the future, if not you're at least being practical about knowing your perspective has been tweaked inaccurately by your experience. Mechanical things break down, your experience has been unfortunate. |

I have over 600,000 miles on a Honda. Never even changed the oil. It's used as a drag bike. Runs sub 9s, original clutch.and tires. |

Just to point out the obvious here: it isn't the Buell part that failed, it was the Harley part. It's Harleys you don't ever want to buy again. It sounds like the Buell part was just fine. |

Sorry, Madrider, it's you that needs to pull the panties out of the crack. You bought an ex-track bike. If you buy an ex track bike, regardless of manufacturer and then get upset that it fails, who's the idiot? |

Gixxer your a douche, off. The bike ran good, obviously it was not apparent how close to engine failure it was. Thanks midnight, Littlebuggles thanks for being perceptive enough to interpret what I was saying, clearly many of the other members are at a 4th grade reading level. Thylacine your a idiot, why bother posting some retarded bullshit, go waste your time on facebook jackass. |

What a dip$hit. You conveniently join this forum 4 days before your beat up piece of junk blows up, and then you run here to spout off what a POS Buell is. Anyone that buys an ex-track bike with a sportster motor doesn't know a whole lot about motorcycles anyway. Don't expect a whole lot of sympathy here, given your attitude and insults. This is a Buell ENTHUSIASTS forum, after all. |

Yes because I always look to gain knowledge on my machines and I figured this would be a good place not knowing it would be blown up soon. Natex, used T6 in my vlx, actually used harley tri synth in the buell. This was Quoted from PO "Total miles on the bike are unknown as is the head work. I am the 3rd owner. I would assume the mileage is fairly low due to the bike originally having airtech body work on it, seat with no padding, and really low clip on handlebars. Previous owner sold the body work and turned it into a M2 for comfort. Here is a pic of the right side. The blue air cleaner cover is gone. Just running an open K&N oval filter now. I bought the bike to ride and I was going to spritz it up a little. I sold my X1 after I bought my Harley last year and I miss it. I would keep this bike but I just purchased a new house this month and it is a hobby farm. So I need to purchase a riding mower and a medium size tractor. I rode the bike at the slimey crud run in the fall. The only problem I had with it was the throttle housing is loose (has a single pull race setup on it) which I am looking for on Ebay and of course the rear tire is shot. It runs excellent and starts easy even in this weather." Everything seemed cool with it, first buell I purchased so the mods appeared to be improvements, didnt realize the person doing them was cutting every corner until after I owned it. Regardless it didnt smoke, no strange noises, it pulled like a freight train before leaving me stuck on the freeway over 60 miles from home. Kilroy- insults and anger? Yeah my bike blew up and guess what- that really sucks, kinda pisses one off. Then after sharing my experience people start chiming in with sarcastic comments oozing teenage girl snottiness. Obviously reading comprehension is not your strong suit tough guy, reread my comments, no where did I bash buells- I said "mine" was a piece of shit and I wont own one again, following that up with- "I know I shouldnt judge all buells from this bad experience, it was awesome when working right but just so problematic I would feel too jinxed on another one if thats understandable." You need to get your facts straight. Thylacine - ta ta gay boy, your comments are totally pointless; not remotely funny, witty, or ironic. |

You still haven't given us enough symptoms to try to diagnose your problem. These are simple motors, generally easy to fix. But hard to give advice to a symptom like "took a shit on me" or "engine let go". WTF does that mean? Folks here would have been great on helping you fix it, but if you just want to get rid of it no point to this thread I guess. |

madrider this sounds like a good chance to build this bike the way you want it. Get it dialed in, and when your done youll know its in good shape. I bet you could fix it for less than buying another bike. good luck |

Id do that if the bike was stock and I had a garage, but have very little means to complete such an extensive breakdown/rebuild. I just cant fathom the idea of putting more money into it. Sold it dirt cheap. |
