I have been reading about running larger than stock 180 and 190 tires and it seems that, although some think they look better, they contribute to heavy and imprecise handling. However, I like a light feel and easy handling so I have been thinking about going the other way with a 160. Is there any down side to running a 160 on a Castally rear wheel? How would it affect handling? |

Anything that's not the "right" size for the wheel, will have adverse effects. Tires are designed for a certain wheel width, so they have the proper profile. Pinch or stretch that profile by using a narrower or wider wheel than it's designed for, and you will probably get bad results. |

A 160/70ZR17 applicable rim size is 4.5 inches to 5.0 inches. The recommended rim size is 4.5 inches. A 170/70ZR17 applicable rim size is 4.5 inches to 5.5 inches. The recommended rim size is 5.0 inches. A 160 wound fit but may not give the best results. Dave if you give it a try make sure you tell us how it goes. We also need to go for a ride being were almost neighbors. |
