When the bike is cold, I.e. first 5 minutes of riding, the engine will not exceed 4k rpm. Warmed up I can hit redline in 1st , shift into 2nd and get a slight sputter around 5k. Sometimes I'll get a sputter in 3rd. This only happens once per ride maybe twice. Any thoughts? Josh |

TPS reset. Make sure you are at operating temperature!!!!! Also, absolutely make sure that your only back out your idle screw until you can open your throttle 1/2 way and let snap shut on it's own, then reads "0" on your ECMspy TPS degree data. I made the stupid mistake of backing out my idle screw several turns beyond the "0". If you do this, you'll never get to the proper "0" position that the TPS needs to see. Make sure you are in "keys on" mode within ECMspy too. Otherwise you won't "live" update your data. After you set the TPS degrees to ~ 5.6 using ECMspy. go out and ride it for awhile, come back in and adjust idle for 1100rpm. |

I have to disagree with Two_ about backing the idle stop. My interpretation is it needs to be backed completely out of the way so the bracket and arm are touching, as per manual. This will give you the true "0" TPS reset position. Then TPS reset, and adjust for idle. If the idle adjust stop is touching during reset then your throttle will be off. |

Psykick is correct. The idle adjustment should be backed out multiple turns past indicated zero to insure that there is a gap between the end of the idle adjustment cable (or screw if an early DDFI) and the throttle wheel - before you re-zero. |

Awesome, will try. I believe the last time I did the TPS reset, it was cold, not running temp. |

Well, so far it's worked for me. I'll give it another shot and do it per the manual like I did the time before last. Screamer heard my '99 after I did it per the manual. He said it wasn't right (actually stalled three times getting to the Screamer man cave), so I went home and did it again until I SAW the idle screw wasn't touching. Reset the TPS, adjusted for 5.6 degrees, rode it, adjusted the idle, and it's been great ever since. Maybe I got lucky on that adjust and was within the FSM "play" with the idle screw. Or not. Maybe my TPS has a flat spot at the zero point. By the way, the Two Seasons garage now has a dedicated laptop. Dropped the family laptop for the second time in the garage and HDD went kapooey. Must have crashed the heads. Replaced HDD, got recovery DVD from HP, and back in business... |

UPDATE It's been over one month now that I did a TPS reset on the '99 as described above. I'd like to thank Loose1 and Screamer for their help. Two good resources and not bad company either This bike has never run smoother in all conditions. Thought I'd share! |

It worked! I rode it for about 10 miles, reset the TPS, rode it around again with a large improvement, came back and did another reset with the engine a little hotter. Didn't get a chance to ride it again til today and have to say it has been a monumental improvement! Thanks guys! |
