Ok now, well i have changed my oil plenty of times and i DO know how to do it, i was wondering though how to do a complete oil change with all of the gearcase oil out as well, the only time i was able to do this was was when i had the side case off to replace the gasket. Do i just drain then add some then run the bike and repeat or what. Thank you in advance. |

Are you talking about your tranny? Theres a plug underneath to drain it. |

If your that anal about a few oz. of oil do the normal oil change then remove the return line at the tank then start it and wait for clean oil to appear then shut down and reconnect the line to the tank then top off the oil level. Not worth the effort or mess IMO. |

Personally, I only change my tank and filter. I have done this with every dry sump I've ever owned. every 1200 miles or so. And filter every 3rd time. |

There is a tiny allen "set screw", if you will, in the bottom of the case under the flywheel. I don't believe the manual mentions it at all. I only found it on my X1 while doing a complete rebuild. I remember noticing that you'd almost certainly need to remove the muffler to get it out and drain every last drop. You have to decide.. is performing a more "complete" oil change going to prolong your engine's life more than the few seconds after starting it with no oil left in the bottom end will shorten it? |

There's no reason at all for getting the last 4 tablespoons of oil out during an oil change. That old oil isn't suddenly poison; you were just running that engine on it after all. I had a friend that used to actually start his car's engine with the drain plug out to get the last tiny bit of oil out. He changed his oil like that three times. He insisted it was the best way to do it. Then it seized Oops. |

you could remove the plug wires and turn the engine over for a second or two. repeat as necessary. the remaining oil to gets pumped to the filter. several drops of oil will come out after each cranking of the engine. |
