So my clutch cable finally broke on my 2000 x1. I sure this has happened before. Short and sweet, how and where do I get another one. I would rather not give it back to H-D. What is a good replacement without breaking the bank. Also is there anything else I should do/replace while I am in there? Thanks in advance. |

American sport bike will get your cable: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5675.html Also, you don't need to go "in there" to change it. Just pop the round cover for access. (drain fluid first to avoid mess) If you're feeling ambitious, the tubers up to early 2000 had a wimpy chain adjustment shoe in there some have broken. The upgrade was pretty cheap as I recall. Also very easy to do. Mine was the old wimpy style and I replaced it at 40,000 miles it was wobbly but not broken. Now if you do go "in there" make sure you replace the original primary gasket with the newer aluminum+rubber one. |

If you pull the clutch covet with the bike upright (not on the sidestand) you don't have to drain anything. You may get a dribble when you actually remove the cable, from the cable fitting (DO NOT overtighten the new one!!), but any that comes out the clutch cover opening is "extra" / overfill anyway. |

"SO" that you do not have to worry about the "THIRD(3)" cable, DRILL A SMALL HOLE OVER WHERE THE CABLE END RUBS THE MOST IN THE CABLE END HOLE IN THE LEVER AND THE PROBLEM IS FIXED AS NOW YOU CAN LUBE THE CABLE END !!! |

BY FAR the most important thing about replacing a clutch cable is to not over-torque the fitting where it screws into the primary cover. The fitting is made of aluminum and will snap off VERY easily. Barely finger-tight with a short wrench is adequate- it seals on an O-ring. DAMHIK. |

Update: so i ended up cancelling my order with american sport bike. turns out it was cheaper getting it straight from H-D with over night shipping, than it was from American Sport Bike with standard shipping. The part# is 38656-00YA |
