So when you remove the black factory plastic intake housing on a 1999 X1, how do you hold down the tank cover? You are left with two tabs on the front of the cover but no place to fasten them. Is welding tabs on the frame the answer, or is there an easier solution? (Message edited by jnorton on June 19, 2012) |

Just above the tabs and about 3" towards the steering neck there should be 2 bolts that hold the tank cover. The tabs only mount the airbox/scoop. (Message edited by Jramsey on June 19, 2012) |

I know that the tabs mounted to the airbox. What I 'm wondering is if you remove the airbox (installing a forcewinder purely for aesthetics), what do you now fasten the tank cover to? |

The cover should be fastened to 2 tabs that are welded to the frame.

It would seem that we have different bikes. No sign of those tabs on my bike. Here's a couple of pix of mine.

Wow,I guess the earlier '99s didn't have the frame tab's,mines a 2000 that was built August '99. I just assumed yours had the frame tabs. Looks like time to fab some brackets. |

Does any one know why I couldt mount this style tank to my 96 to avoid the bubbling problem? |

as stated.. those tabs shown on the yellow bike are just for holding the airbox cover on. There should be a bolt hole closer to the steering neck that holds the cover to the tank/frame....

Purpony's right there should be a tab and a hole. Jramsey's pic shows both and Jnorton's looks like it just missed the hole. |

PurPony's got it I have covers from 99,00, and 01, they all have them. You should have the other two mounting holes also. Matt |
