Well.....I finally bit the bullet and started "renewing" my S2. After a year and a half of gathering parts from many various dealers and Ebay, it is time. Took some of it apart a couple of weeks ago and then took it to fireman Jim's. He took it totally apart, including the engine. Just got it back from the powder coaters a couple of days ago. Body parts at the painters, with my Ebay yellow S3 bags. About 90% of the bike will be "new"......front forks, rear shock, wire harness, both master cylinders, both hand control assy.,all cables, speedo, tach, all brake lines, swing arm...(recall one), axles, wheels, brake rotors,.....some of the parts boxes are dated in the 90's. Engine is going to be pretty close to stock. 1250 kit with TS heads,(left stock)...Not sure which cam yet. Baker 6 speed. Crank rebuilt and balanced. This bike has been pretty good to me for 15 years.........(a stator went bad on the Christmas in July ride)......only breakdown in 40+k miles I figure it will be good for another 15yrs. Still looking for the speedo cable guide for the front fender........(may have to make somthing)....and the odometer reset cable....(new)...the original works fine. Just have to get it all back together for the Ozarks run. Ride safe......Jack (Message edited by jvv on May 11, 2012) |

Jack,if by speedo cable guide, you mean "wire guide" 67145-96Y.I have a used one that was pretty dirty from brake dust.It was used on the front brake hose on an X1.I cleaned it up in my blast cabnet. You might want to put some paint on it or something.I'll send it to you if you PM me your address. Jack! That is going to be one long break-in ride. I hope you have time to do a few hundred miles before taking off for Arkansas. Shane |

Mike........my book shows 67368-95y..(shows it in the speedo section). I don't think all S2's came with it.??? The cable wore a pretty good grove in the fender over the years.....I will pm you and give it a try. RT.......started out with "pleanty"of time, but the crank is being held up, the body work wants more time as does the chrome shop. Just got the shock spring back today and the shop with a spring compressor is gone till Tuesday. Most every thing else is ready to go up to fireman Jim's shop. Shane......."plan" on about a 1,000 miles before leaving. But if not, the trip will certainly break it in. Ride safe....Jack |

Well its been going slow...............the crank was bad, took a while to ship it to the crank people and get looked at, only to find out the rods are too far out to save. So........a new S & S crank is on its way.........should have it in a couple of days. All the other parts are in. cept for a few that are “in the mail” Buellish's guide works.............just got it back from the chrome shop. Don Castro also sent one........love the "Buell" help. Sitting at FMJ’s with some boxes of parts. More boxes of parts. It’s all down hill now............Engine should be back together Monday. Ride safe......Jack |

Jack: Did you get the S&S oil pump drive gear? I think the splines are different than the HD crank's. rt |

RT.......Terry from JTS ordered the parts from his "crank guy".........(had to have the case bored out for an oversize bearing)....I "assume" he is aware of the pump gear. Have a new late S1 pump already. I will ask tho....... Shane........tank looks good......had a few other parts polished too. Can't wait to get it ALL together. Ride safe....Jack |

Picked up the body work today...a good week late. They look great though!! Had to leave the tail section......He did not put the rear screens back it.......(so Monday). The crank is still not here....(as of yesterday???)......long story there. The front pulley was ordered 6 weeks ago. They said it was back ordered then, so expected a wait. Back order update came in a couple of weeks ago.....6 more weeks. So they....(Oakland Harley)....sez they will get it from Salinas Harley......(they have it in stock and will ship)....week goes by and no pulley. Call Salinas and get a phone message: closed for 2 weeks for inventory....(they must be closing or changing hands??). Oakland found one it Arkansas....(interesting coincidence).....so, it is "on the way”. Still having a good time pulling this off!!!! Ride safe.......Jack |

Shane......need a slow motion clock Buelish........Love it when things come together! Court...Thanks again......all the parts are here, cept for 2 that are due any day. The crank is supposed to be overnighted today??? Both Jim and Terry are going to be working on the bike..(with some meddling by me).....so it is in good hands. A little like getting a race bike put together........except the pits are going to be far away, rather than a 1/2 mile away, at most. Ride safe......Jack |

Probably less stressful than being broke down in the wilds of the northern Wisconsin woods with no cell coverage, sun going down, and the only traffic a local Sheriff going by who might just be willing to call a tow... Remind me to tell you that story someday. Or wait, I guess that you were there, so you know how it ends. |

I should have been watching this earlier. I left on a less-than-perfect front disc instead of my EBC, as well as the squishy Harley footpegs in order to have a shot at the "most original" trophy this time round. (Replaced the S3 fender that I think I got busted on in Colorado, too.) I think Jack will be taking that one home! |

Blaze helping me with the body work. Had to drill out the glassed in hole from the repair...... Trying my best not to scratch the new paint........ New rubber ring. Easy install... Installing the “hand made” OEM screens.... Off with the masking tape/paper..... On with all the hardware............. The crank is finally here and the cams........(had to change cams/gears to fit the S & S and get them overnighted).......they showed today. Sorta pretty much done with my part......everything has run way over the "projected" time. |

Sorty...........I have changed quite a few things........didn't even think about the most orginal.........way too late now. Buffalo.....Enjoy your extra time off....good for you!! Today was a 14+ hr. day Pick up the bags.....(the last of the painted parts)......about 150 miles getting the rest of the parts and back home and finishing them up.......(almost). Ride safe you guys..... Jack |

Another 12 hr. day........picking up "stuff" and heading up to Sonoma Raceway. Terry and Jim putting this thing together. It is getting there...but, lots of parts not "just" bolting on. The chrome on the belt adjusters galled up on the nuts. The exhaust fit when I tried it on before polishing it.....(I must have not had it tightened in place)....as it now just hits the air filter cover. Lots of little things that "should" have taken a few minutes, went on and on. Still HAV'N FUN!!! Ride safe.....Jack |

Fun is the key Jack. Don't get fixated on Arkansas. Do the bike right is more important. |
