I would like to say thank you to all those that helped me during my repair and upgrade process of the 2001 X1 that I bought in early March. I think I have finally worked out most of the bugs on the bike and it seems to be running great. The only thing I am still working on is the AFV. The AFV is running at 111. I bought the bike with 6340 mile on it and unfortunately the bike had not been taken care of in a long time. It also appeared that it had set outside for years. It had a bad/dead battery, oil leaking from the top of the front head, oil leaking out of the primary (it would just drip from the shifter bolt, dry rotted turn signals, dry rotted tires and just overall lack of care. With your help and a lot of searching on this site here is a list of the improvements and upgrades that were completed: 1. XB rocker box covers and turret valves 2. New Cometic rocker box gaskets 3. New push rod base seals and top O-rings 4. Pegasus Billet aluminum catch can to engine and crankcase breathers with K&N filter 5. New fuel lines 6. New OEM fuel filter 7. New exhaust seals 8. New exhaust studs 9. New exhaust snap rings 10. Installed econowinder and K&N filter with custom aluminum spacer 11. Polished headers 12. New primary cover gasket 13. New clutch cover O-ring 14. New primary inspection O-rings 15. Properly adjusted primary chain 16. New front and rear tires 17. Properly adjusted drive belt 18. (4) new turn signals 19. Aprilia tuono mirrors 20. New brake light lens 21. New rear under tray 22. Replaced seat pin latch cable 23. New battery 24. Changed brake fluid front & rear 25. Changed primary fluid 26. Changed engine oil and filter 27. New spark plugs NGK 28. New voltage regulator 29. Polished rear tail section 30. Seafoam in gas tank and engine oil 31. New gas cap and gas tank vent O-rings 32. Changed engine oil and filter again after 100 miles to flush the bike 33. Polished wheels detailed bike I know that a lot of you have done much more in depth work to your bikes but this is the most extensive project that I have done on a vehicle. I am just happy that it is running and I didn't break anything. I am posting a few before and after pics below. My wife says the pics do not do show how dirty and trashed the bike was before I started. The bike was literally covered in old oil. There was oil everywhere. I probably scraped and cleaned off the equivalent of a quart of oil. BEFORE

Thanks, I got the plastic with a dremel tool. I then took brite aluminum window screen and cut to fit. I used glue similar to contact cement to attach the two together. The flexibility of the screen allowed me to contour it to the curves of the airbox and create a nice smooth finish. I tried to find something made from stainless or a sheet of expanded metal but could not find anything that I was happy with. The aluminum screen is also very inexpensive and the openings are small enough to keep most insects and road debris out. |
