Has anyone done this without rejetting? I have a 1997 M2. Took the muffler off to work on the clutch. Started it and it sounded like it would run fine. |

D&D muffler fell off on a trip. Didn't know it at the time because the D&D was so loud. There was a pitch difference, but it didn't run any different. Ended up riding 150 miles home with no issues. Glad I had good earplugs, and I don't miss the D&D at all. |

Engines like backpressure. I can't imagine wanting to run a Buell without a muffler; I'm trying to find a stock muffler for my S2 because the Supertrapp is too damned loud! That said (to each his own)...you DEFINITELY want to rejet. Period. More air in and out means you need more fuel to match it. Less backpressure means much more air...which needs more fuel. |

If you have any back pressure problems with straight pipes, check these out. http://www.bigcitythunder.com/ |

The kid I bought my M2 from , Had the carb jetted to run it with no muffler . He added a 16 " pipe on the end of the stock header , no baffle. Sounds great , but to loud for me . |

For what it is worth ... IMHO, "i" would measure the header pipes and add a piece of pipe to get the measurement to 36 inches on the longest one ... Then jet the carb. ... "BUT" if you want it to make noise and run good(little back pressure) get a reverse cone megaphone from J.C.Whitney and fit it up ... |

The tail looks similar to the Airtech BS1GP2. http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/buell/M2199702 .htm#streetfighter |

Engines like backpressure This statement is not necessarily true if it was Pro Stock bikes wouldn't run straight pipes. The statement if you put on a straight pipe you will have to rejet and change the timing curve is and yes I have a stock muffler on my bike I don't need to aggravate the neighbors or get a ticket. |

...and a prostock bike has two throttle positions - "on", and "off". They are tuned to run at...you guessed it..."on". Me? I like my motorcycles to work on the street. Varied conditions. Varied throttle positions. And in order to work this way...you need backpressure as part of the equation. Don't hassle me on backpressure. My other hobby is turbocharged 4 cylinder cars. My straight-piped super 70 turbo and my S60VNT run great at the track...but I'll take my catted-exhaust cars any day on the street for dynamic control. I actually had to add a muffler to the VNT car, just to get the damn thing to be able to control the boost. I know. Apples and oranges. But the fact remains - backpressure is a factor for an internal combustion engine, for tuning. ProStock bikes...aren't "tuned" for driveability, only for WFO horsepower. That...is an air pump. Air in, air out, make power. No variables other than atmosphere. Open throttle, hold on. And to run this one full-circle...I've taken a stock bike. Gutted a muffler. Re-jetted until the plugs read properly. It still ran like poop. |
