I just returned from a 250 mile trip during which it rained most of the way there and back, torrentially the last 15-20 miles. During that last leg the bike started running really crappy, missing like a mutha-chicken, dieing, starting back w/ pure momentum, barely turning 60mph at full-throttle. I put his down to water where it shouldn't be and figured to let every thing dry out a couple days and life would be normal once again.

Not so.

Yesterday I did a little preliminary cleaning, brushing the large chunks of mud off, vacuming all the tiny gravel out from under the seat (this is Montana where mud and gravel seem to get in everywhere), etc, then headed into town for a visit to the carwash. The bike's still got a bit of a miss but not horrible, however the oil-light on the dash comes on after five miles.

I stop, check the oil and everything's alright. When I restart the bike the light's off and we go again. The light comes back on (the low-grade miss is consistant throughout all of this). So now I'm scared to ride it until I figure out what's wrong w/ the oil.

Oh, as an aside, when I pulled the saddle-bags off I found a large split in both along the main horizontal mounting slot. @#$&&*!!! piece of poop. Now I have to fiberglass as well.

Thanks for any insights,
Rek

Mine was doing the bad running during torrential downpour thing. I tracked it back to a loose connection on the ignition system, I just resnugged the boots. Can't remember if it was the other end of the plug wires, or a coil wire or somethgin, but it was one of those just slip on boots up in there somewhere.

I had the oil light thing as well. Pop the sender unit snap fit wire connection (down by the oil filter), clean well, pop it back on.

Thx Reepicheep,
I just broke out the air hose and blew everything off, ditto on the sending unit. So far so good. Now onto those @#$!! saddlebags.

Riding through a big puddle (almost 2 feet deep) at 40mph cost me my tach, battery, and entire charging system (tach shorted out). After that I went through and greased all my electrical connections.
