Supp fellas. Just picked me up an 02 XW1 White Lightning. It's in great shape, and I got a steal of a deal. But I just want to make sure I get everything sorted before I call it good.

What kind of maintenance items should I be doing? It's got just over 10K miles. I have ECMspy already and have been using it. I have experience tuning with MegaSquirt on cars, so it's pretty familiar.

Fouled plugs were the reason it was sold as not-running, so obviously I will be getting new ones for GP. I have already pulled all the trouble codes and fixed all the problems related to the current codes. And have cleared and verified all problems are actually fixed.

I am planning on doing a fluids service this week. Any recommendations on fluids specifically?

And do I need to do any valve adjustments or the like on it?

Thanks in advance!
Blaze

I use Formula+ for the primary, Amsoil 20w50 for the crankcase. Do a search for proper fluid levels.

One little warning on oil changes:
Run it for a minute to make sure all of the oil is pumped up into the tank.

Some make a little funnel thing out of aluminum foil to keep the oil from slobbering out from the filter.
I just let it slobber and blast it with brake cleaner : )

Field service manual can be had at American Sport Bike.

Harley Davidson Formula+ in the primary.

Amsoil 20w-50 in the engine.

Nothing too complicated with Buell tubers.

"And do I need to do any valve adjustments or the like on it?"

Nope, hydraulic.

In case you missed it above, don't check the oil with the engine cold. Check it right after you shut it off. And don't fill it to the high mark. No more than half way between the marks.

Generally, the oil capacity is 2.5Quarts for engine and just under a quart for the tranny.
The official level for the tranny is like 28ounces,
If you fill the oil tank to the top line, you will freak out "OMG! I'm burning oil we're all going to die!!!"
If you keep it at the lower level, you will see a great reduction in oil consumption.

Thanks for the quick replies! Engine oil is sweet as I stock 20-50 race oil for my track car.

As for the oil consumption, how much is normal? I know it depends on driving, and I expect I will be on the pansy side of driving. I do push my stuff hard, but I don't do it all the time. And when I'm not I'm usually in full grandpa mode.
