If you're looking to increase your top speed, you will need a smaller rear pulley or a larger front pulley.
I believe the European gearing is taller.
You could probably set yourself up with a swap since the Europeans seem to hate it : )

All this is assuming that increase the power output of the engine to pull on the taller ratio harder.

X-1's came with 27 tooth front, S-2 and some S-3's came with a 29 tooth that will swap on or check with Al at American Sportbike for a Baker 28 tooth.
Euro rear was a 55 tooth and that is a big change. Might have to change adjusters to get that on.

Hi i am in the UK
i changed my UK to 1/2 USA
(just the rear pulley) i used standard adjusters with no problem

the standard Buell gearing on my X1 is
55-29 UK gearing

61-27 US gearing

the USA Buell ratio pulleys are a bit hard to find over this side of the pond
(be careful as Buell Blast pulleys are a different width)

Sportster rear pulley (part no.40246-91) has 61 teeth
this will fit BUT you need to enlarge the central big hole by about 3mm internal Dia.

i only changed the rear pulley on mine which gives 1/2 USA gearing , but a marked improvement in bottom end response

be aware though this alters your speedo , it will be around 10% different

Those blast pulleys always puzzled me.
Why did they make them that wide and then use the weenie belt?

At first, I thought it was just because it was a new model and the later bikes would have it sorted out.
Nope.
They just kept the same damn weird setup all along until they were "cubed"

Here is the MATH FORMULA for GEAR RATIO from an OLD SCHOOLer!!!

(1st)Engine Sprocket X Counter Shaft Sprocket =

(2nd)Clutch Sprocket X Rear Wheel Sprocket =

2nd divided by the 1st =

UK gearing:

35 X 29 = 1015

56 X 55 = 3080

3080 divided by 1015 = 3.0344827(3.03)

US gearing:

35 X 27 = 945

56 X 61 = 3416

3416 divided by 945 = 3.6148148(3.61)

UK change to 61 rear wheel:

35 X 29 = 1015

56 X 61 = 3416

3416 divided by 1015 = 3.3655172(3.37)

The gearing is only 0.34 lower gearing(3.37 - 3.03 = 0.34) ...

Low Gearing 4.00(lots of TORQUE, "BUT" low top end MPH)

Mid Range Gearing 3.00(best of both worlds)

High(tall) Gearing 2.00 for top end(max. MPH)
